AOP Experiences

My AOP date is approaching and I was just wondering what to expect. I got the pamphlet that outlines the two days, but I'd still like to know. So if you just finished yours, or you remember some things from a past year's AOP, please share.

Most importantly bring a fan!!! And an extension cord. It’s so hot in there and our fans didn’t reach the beds. It’s a lot of fun!!

It has changed a lot since I did it three years ago, luckily my sister just did hers two weeks ago. I don’t know too much detail but I know when I was going into my AOP I wanted any and all info.

On the first day you have some talks about MSU and what to expect. You meet with your adviser and schedule classes. You learn a bit about the dorms and you tour them. You get a tour of campus (which was a long walk for me). My sister also said something about geocaching in the evening. She was bushed and hit the hay early (9:30 where she chatted with me till 10) but there were other events and socializing at night.

I don’t really know what she did the next day aside from going to a talk with a professor and filling out a survey at the checkout time. She was out by about 11:45 the second day.

On Day 2 there is a time slot for “assessment.” Does this mean I’m going to have to take some sort of test at AOP?

I’m not sure exactly. I don’t recall having to take any tests and my sister never said anything about it. I believe you can take things like your foreign language test, math test, and writing test.

The timeslot for assessment is if you haven’t taken the math or language placement tests (or if you have and want to redo it). One advantage to taking the proctored version of the math exam (versus the online version) is that if you score high enough you can get the math gen ed. requirement waived completely.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I just came back from AOP yesterday and I had the time of my life - can’t wait to go back in August.
