AP and IB exams

Next year I have pretty much a full schedule of honors courses. My school offers both AP's and the IB diploma, and I'm doing both. I was just wondering if I should take redundant exams (e.g. IB Biology HL and AP Biology). I'm already taking 6 AP exams (Spanish Lang, Government, Comp Govt, Macroeconomics, Physics C: Mechanics, and Calculus BC), and 5 IB exams (Biology HL, English HL, European History HL, Spanish SL, and Math Methods SL). I did the Physics SL exam last year. Would colleges prefer if I also include APs in English, Biology, and Euro History? I just don't want to overextend myself more than I have to.

That looks like more than enough. I wouldnt overextend because if you are going for full diploma than that is more important than a few more AP's. 6 AP's and Full Diploma IB looks pretty sweet on an application.

In terms of college admissions and credit/placement, most colleges consider AP and IB courses and exams equivalent. My school didn't offer IB, so I don't know much about the exams or college policy about them, but I know that many colleges treat 6's and 7's on IB exams as equivalent to 4's and 5's on AP exams. I wouldn't bother taking the redundant exams. Having that many AP exams in addition to an IB diploma is quite impressive already

I'd take the AP exams- most people do better on AP exams than IB exams. I took an AP exam for every IB exam (about 14 exams total this year, I think). AP exams got me credit for some classes; IB exams got me credit for other classes (a few were both). The exams roughly cover the same material, so it's not like you have to study a lot of extra stuff.

If you only take one AP exam out of English, Biology, and Euro History, take English. The IB English exam is basically 3 (or 2? I don't remember) essays and is really subjective...you can't really study for it like you can AP English Lit/Lang.

I know, I know....but even if you don't consider the studying it takes, the sheer amount of cash it costs is probably enough to fly to Hawaii and back. The AP's are such a racket.
Anyway, I may or may not take them. I'm pretty confident about my IB exams. I have 7's predicted on two of my HL's and one SL and 6's on everything else. Also, I've already taken 3 AP exams.

Whoops! My school pays for all of our AP and IB exams. I forget that most schools don't. :o

Is history one of your 7's? The exam is really easy. The biology exam is slightly tricky, though (although paper 2 is EASY)- I've known only a few people to get 7's on it.

If you want credit, you need to take atleast the Spanish and some math AP exams because most colleges do not allow SL exams to give you credit. Check the colleges you want to go to and see what they give credit to. I don't think you get double credit if you get a 7 on English HL and a 5 on English AP.

warblers - Yes, history is one of my predicted 7's. My predicted Bio grade is a 6, but I tend to be pretty good at biology so I'm going to work really hard and maybe I can get a 7.

burnsk8er - Yeah I know. I'm taking the Calc BC, Spanish, and Physics AP exams. I just don't want to take English, Euro History, and Biology unless I really have to.
