IB x AP Course Redundancy

Hi guys!

I’m new to CC but have scoured some of the old forums on here - thank you all so much in advance for all of your great advice and for taking the time to answer some of our questions!

Apologies if this topic has been discussed before but I haven’t yet seen it as a thread here, so please let me know if this is redundant!

I’m currently a freshman in HS and on track to taking the IB diploma. I’m planning on taking HL Chem and Bio and I know that the respective AP courses/exams for these courses cover pretty much the same material. Would it be redundant to take the AP Exams in my junior year when I’m taking the IB counterpart?

Thank you again!

Yes. Colleges will not give credit for the same subject twice.

Unless you fear failing the IB exam and think you can get a 4/5 on the AP, which would be quite odd, it sounds like a waste of time and money.

Typically you’d take the AP exam for the IB SL classes that match and often don’t bring credit.
So, if you take English SL you could take the Ap Lang exam in 11th grade (remember to register early).
