hello i am a junior who is going to be taking ap art history. what is your impression of the test and its difficulty? is it mostly memorization or application of concepts?

Memorization.

Memorization. However, if the subject interests you, you might find that you can tell what period or time a piece was made, maybe even the when and a few times the who, by just a picture. It is very cool.

is it possibe to self study art history (sorry this doesnt answer the OP's question but i'm exploring the world of self-study)

very tough, no prep book. The text for art history is a beast.

Self-Study would be difficult. There are no "review" books. Essentially, the oftentimes huge Art History textbooks ARE the review books.

Annotated Mona Lisa is a very good book for review but it hardly covers all of the necessary information. Also, the test is incredibly random and almost anything from 4000 + years of Art could show up at anytime.

I really would like to self-study Art History, but it just sounds too difficult to get the 4.
