If I were to take the AP exam and score high enough, would this forgo the a-g high school required visual or performing arts at UC schools? I would not be enrolled in the actual class. I would be independently studying it.

No. Earning a high AP score on APAH can get you college credit, but it will not substitute an actual high school class.

You actually need the class on your transcript to take care of the VAPA requirement.

I’m not super 100% sure, but I’m going with the other users.
Scoring high enough will be helpful in placing into certain classes or opting out of classes, but not to waive the A-G requirement. I got accepted to Berkeley and I took AP Art History (on my transcript) for the class in high school because I wasn’t about to take a visual or performing art, lol, I suck at those.

In most situations, it would not count. However, I would suggest taking either an online or local college art history class, since it usually counts for your art credit but is not factored into your G.P.A.(or at least in my school, it’s this way). And self studying for AP Art History is not as easy as it seems. There is ALOT of text to cover. Talk to your counselor to see your options.
