AP Bio or AP Chem?

I’m a sophmore in high school and I’m deciding which science I should take next year. Science is my strong point, and I genuinely like both classes. I did exceedingly well in biology; likewise with chemistry as of right now. Although I plan to take both classes (one in 11th grade, the other in 12th), I need to know if one class will help me with the other.

So, which class should I take first?

If you are planning to take them both, it doesn’t matter the order you take them. In DD’s high school, they are both 1.5 period classes, however, so that can take a bit of planning to pull off.

I would make a point to fit in a year of physics, if you haven’t already done so.

Do you have any thoughts on college majors or general areas of interest?

I agree that if you haven’t taken a Physics class, it should be in there. All three of Bio/Chem/Physics and then one AP is a general recommendation. Outside of health/Bio majors, I would recommend AP Chem or Physics C.

I think the AP Biology test was more intuitive and required less knowledge, whereas AP Chem was a mix of knowledge and applications through calculations and experiment design.

Consider taking AP Physics 1 junior year…and then decide which one you want to take. If you want Engineering, take AP Chem. Otherwise choose based on interest or the teacher.

If you have not taken physics, take physics, then choose an AP or advanced level science based on your interests and intended college major.
