For my senior year, I want to take a biology course but am not sure which will look better for colleges. My college counselor says that AP Bio would look better for colleges but I have heard from many at my school that the AP Bio teacher is not a very good one. Another plus would be that I would not have to take the AP test if I took the course at community college. Please tell me what you think or what you know about each course.
You would have to take the final exam of a college course.
It can depend on what colleges you are targeting, and what their transfer credit policies are for AP biology scores versus the course at the college you may take biology at.
Also, if you will be a pre-med, note that college courses taken while in high school and their grades do affect pre-med GPA while AP scores do not, though many medical schools do not accept AP credit for pre-med courses.
I would take AP Bio. Colleges know what that means. It is easier for you logistically (not having to get to campus). AP Bio is spread over a year and college Bio is only a semester. If you do poorly on the final in Bio, you may have a low score to incorporate into your college GPA. If you do poorly on the AP bio test…no big deal. You just don’t get credit…you take Bio in college again. You can’t take it again in college if you have already taken it.
