I just chose AP Bio as a senior elective. In our school, we don't have the opportunity to take all the AP sciences, and I feel really bad. I was thinking about going pre med. I know AP Chem could be more important for premed, but I am taking College Chem 1 instead. I can't fit AP Bio and AP chem into my schedule. Will this put me at a disadvantage against other students who are able to take all the science AP? Will most colleges consider this in acceptance? Also while reading Harvard Medical School requirements, I saw that they require 2 years of chemistry. I don't have that. Please help. Is there anything I can do????

No, colleges look at you within your own high school’s offerings and will see you took the hardest classes possible. It is perfectly acceptable to take chem in college.

And that is the MEDICAL school requirements, as far as I can tell those 2 years of chemistry can be in college.

I think you might be better off taking AP Chem in high school, and then doing Biology in college. AP Bio can be very, VERY intensive at times-a lot of memorizing. It’s interesting, so if you’re choosing primely based on interest, AP Bio might be better. AP Chem is not as intensive. It might be a lot of homework, but still, the overall time spent on AP Chem is way less than time spent on AP Bio. AP Chem is easier, close to no memorizing. I also heard it’s easier than College Chemistry that you would place out of by getting a 4 or 5 on the AP Exam.

As an alternative, is AP Enviro Sci looked down upon by adcoms?

It depends on the high school. For some high school, AP Bio is more intense and for some high school AP Chem is more intense. If you are good in math, AP Chem makes more sense. If not, I would pick AP Bio.

Well, I know a lot of medical schools require you to take all the pre-req science classes in college as those are more difficult than your average high school AP bio or chem class.

For now, I think you should take whichever one.

AP Biology.

I don’t think colleges (without requirements such as Harvard’s medical program, etc. have) would judge you if you picked one or the other. It’s not like you didn’t pick either.
The way I see it, you would get something out of either class.

I ran into your situation last year picking my senior year classes.
I personally ended up with AP Chem because the kids told me that the AP Bio course didn’t help them at all once they got into college. The AP chem course did, however.

My suggestion to you is: ask around. ask pre-med kids who have taken both which one has helped more once they got into college.
But you’re most likely going to re-take both intro classes in college anyway since if you’re a science major/pre-med/etc it isn’t recommended that you skip out of them if you receive a good score on the ap test.
