I can take either AP Chem or AP Bio this year and don't know which would be best. I'm better at biology and for me chemistry is really hard, so i was thinking maybe take the chem class and self-study biology (along with maybe economics and psych). Which looks better? I mean, i don't really want to take chemistry but since i have the option... what would you recommend?
thanks!

i'm going to be biased and say chemistry ( i like chem. better than bio). however, both chem and bio are awesome sciences.

you can actually probably self study bio. not likely with chemistry.

It really depends on what you want to do in college. If you're going engineering or maybe pre-med, Chem is almost always required and so if you don't like chem you might as well get that out of the way much quicker.

take chemistry

Chemistry is next to impossible to self-study so I suggest that you take the course in school. Biology is a little easier to learn by yourself because a larger portion of it is memorization so you could self-study it.

Biology is much easier, if that's a factor.

Chemistry is more difficult and appears stronger on a resume in my opinion

I'd say bio. It's an easier class, it's more interesting, etc. though that's just me.

One won't look better than the other, it really doesn't matter. Just take whichever one you want.

I highly disagree with this. First off, if you're going premed, it's a bad idea to skip chem... med schools don't generally accept AP credit, so you'll have to replace the year of gen chem with higher level chem classes; not fun unless you're going for a chem major, in which case it's required.

Aside from that, college courses are much harder than their AP counterparts, but with chem it's even more important to take the college course because you will get much better lab experience.

if you think you can self-study for bio, do chem. if you don't want to, i'd still say do chem. if you don't want to and want to have an easier time, uh well chem was easier for me but bio was easier for nearly everyone else i know.

Wait,

I am going to be a premed, and have taken AP Chem, I asked my teacher and she said according to her experience, Chem 1 in college is the same as AP Chem. Will Medical School really look down upon taking Ap chem and replacing Gen Chem? I also wanted to self study Bio so I need to know.

Thanks

they(medschools) don't take credit sometimes.

Med schools don't accept AP credit.

And AP Chem (or any other AP, really) is not nearly as hard as its counterpart college course.

So if you get credit as a premed, do medical colleges expect you to retake it? I am confused, who doesn't accept it, undergrad, or grad schools?
I want to go to UMass Amherst, and they take AP Chem and AP Bio as they level 1 courses.

If you are good in math, you should do well in Chem. If you suck in math, you won't be able to self study Chem. Bio is a lot of memorization and you said you are pretty good at it so self-study Bio and take Chem.

I took Biology, but it wasn't AP level and my teacher was HORRIBLE so I basically self-studied and ended up doing fine on the AP test. I think taking AP Chem and self-studying AP Bio is probably easier and better.

Take chem. Bio is much easier, so you can self-study for it like you said. self-styding AP Chem is possible, but would require much more time, dedication, and effort than self-studying bio.

On chem, you'll greatly appreciate having a teacher there to walk you through the steps and explain things. On bio, if there's something you don't get, you can just accept it, learn it, and move on. Not so with chem. Take chem.

I took AP Bio, but it had a lot of memorization. I'm going to take AP Chemistry in the Fall.

If you're better at Bio, take AP Bio. I got a 3 and I barely studied for the AP test. I liked Chemistry better, but Biology's ok. You should take AP Bio.
