AP Biology 2011 Official Thread

wow…
That’s really good. I’m pretty positive you gonna make a 5!!

How’s it done…Would be nice.

Goodness guys, the test is approaching so quickly…

To anybody who’s taken it, what score did you get on the 2002 released exam? Did it seem easy to you, on par with what youre expecting, or difficult.

Thanks!

Final weekend, my friends. Is cyclic amp (or any process involving it) worthy of memorizing. I’ve done a few practice tests so far, and it hasn’t made an appearance. I suppose I could have just answered myself, but if anyone has a suggestion, I’ll take it.

anyone going to be pulling any all nighters this weekend to study?

hey check out bozeman biology on youtube for super helpful videos on any bio topic you can imagine

does anyone have any predictions for the frqs? And how should I prepare using the Cliffnotes list of frqs to know?

Our class made a bet that the lab frq will be the photosynthesis lab, so take it as you will, but use lab bench to its fullest!

I don’t quite remember… I’m not sure any of us that took it last year (or even longer ago) would. I do think I was scoring in the 70s though. You should be getting consistent scores on the released exams if you take more than one (which I highly recommend). I don’t really recall one of them yielding an outlying score.

With FRQs in biology, it’s basically just spewing out facts. It’s not writing a thorough essay like you would in history or English APs. You don’t really need to prepare for the FRQs separately; just learn the material (it’s mostly vocabulary) and it’ll be your foundation for doing well on both the MC and the FRQs.

You really need to get used to spitting out the random facts that they ask for, however, and the way to do this is practice! Go to the College Board website and print off the last couple years’ FRQs. Sit down, set a timer, and do them as if you are in the real thing. Then score them using the CB scoring rubrics, and you’ll learn a bit from this: Mainly that it’s really easy to get the points, and that some of the smallest little details can get you points. Again, you’re just spitting out facts and if they’re on the list of things on the rubric, you get the point.

Also, my strategy was to read Cliff’s from front to back the weekend before the exam. Read most (if not all) of it tomorrow, finish on Sunday if needed, then do your practice tests and FRQs.

Good luck!

does anyone have a list of the cliffnotes frq to know?

Sure, here they are.

Cells: cell structure, especially structure and function of the plasma membrane

Respiration: respiration and mitochondria

Photosynthesis: photosynthesis and chloroplasts

Cell division: mitosis and meiosis

Molecular genetics: DNA structure and replication

Molecular genetics: protein synthesis

Evolution: natural selection

Evolution: speciation

Plants: reproduction in flowering plants

Plants: plant tropisms and hormones (especially auxin)

Animal structure and function: nerve transmission

Animal structure and function: muscle contraction

Animal reproduction and development: menstrual cycle

Ecology: succession

Ecology: biogeochemical cycles

Hope that helps!

thanks so much

do you guys suggest watching the bozeman biology videos?

Is anyone taking the SAT BIO tomorrow?

Taking SAT II tomorrow, so no night studying this night, but next one for sure! Gotta get that 5! :)

Quick question:
Do we need to know the differences between the types of protists (i.e rhizopoda vs zooflaggelates vs oomycota vs green algae vs diatom)?

Two quick questions,

 1. How effective is 5 steps to a 5 compared to cliffs, does it have most of the content you need to know, or is it missing some?

Is bozeman biology on youtube a good enough review for all the materials or should you still go through the review books?

Thanks

So I got a 77/100 on the PR review test #2, is that pretty good? I’m shooting for a 5…

That’s really good.
