AP Biology 2011 Official Thread

Now that there’s not much time left, I have a decision to make: bozemanbiology OR khanacademy?

I also have cliffs so if any of you guys would help out and suggest a study plan then go ahead.

btw I’ve done at least 5 official tests already as practice

Thanks - procrastination FTL!

Cliffnotes doesn’t give many examples for the lab, it just gives generic experiments to write about. Is this enough, because I can’t really think of specific examples off of the top of my head.

Does anyone have links to released exams? :frowning: People in the APUSH thread were nice enough to give links to multiple exams, are you biology kids as kind-hearted? :)

Yeah the scoring rubrics are usually really generous about giving out points

@nyyanksjw
How have you been doing on the practice exams, and what score are you aiming for?

Not that great…like 20-25 wrong.

I’m definitely aiming for a 5 though but I’m worried that I don’t know nearly enough to write more than 3 sentences on a FRQ :-(

What should I do with the time I have left? Thanks

For the labs, I would recommend Bozemanbiology, although I haven’t looked at Khan academy. Bozemanbiology does a good job in telling you the basics of what you need to know for the test.
nyyanksjk: I would suggest just go over the cliffs book because it prepares you really well. Learn everything in there as solidly as you can, and you should be fine. Good luck!

Is it manageable to read in one day though AND to retain the information? Should I take notes on it to keep me focused or is it a waste of time?

i’m reviewing the AP cliffs right now because I already read through it once. My suggestion for you is to just read through the areas you struggle with, and then go back and cover missed chapters if you have time. No need to take notes, but every word is important. Depending on how well you’ve learned AP bio, cliffs should just serve as a “reminder”, so you’re basic biology skill will determine your retention. If you already know it, then it should be easy.

To every ap biology students, good luck on monday! Let us all get a big 5!!

I’m doing bozemanbiology. If you’ve read through cliffnotes before (and maybe you were like me who kinda dozed in and out by the time plants hit in), it really solidifies the important information and helps you understand the major systems and concepts. I did about half of the videos tonight and will cover the next half tomorrow. After doing 2 cliffnotes practice tests and not being totally thrilled with the results, it was actually pretty exciting and uplifting to understand a lot of the concepts that were confusing and to experience moments where “A ha! That was on the cliffs test and now I understand the function of X in system A” popped into my mind.

In addition, i’ll be covering the rapid review from 5 steps to a 5 tomorrow and doing a few practice FRQs. Can’t see what else I can do to prepare in one day. Pushing for a 5, hoping for at least a 4, but at the end of the day it is what it is. I think curbing the stress (LOTS of music, LOTS of tea, and some gum really does the trick) will be the best way to get the highest score possible. It worked on my AP tests from last year and I feel like it worked on my APES and Lit exams thus far.

Best of luck to everyone out there prepping for this exam. I have faith that we can all pull off some nice scores. Remember, sleep is your friend!

Does anyone know what we should do for the 10 minute reading period before the free response? Should we plan out our writing or just read the questions?

Question- when on the ap exam we are asked to design an experiment, would we be allowed to recreate one of the ap labs? for example, if the question called for the design of an experiment regarding the enzyme catalysis, could we simply rewrite the ap lab involving hydrogen peroxide and the titration?

hey
would you be able to email me your 2008 exam?
thanks so much,
sharon

just took cliffs practice exam and scored 80/100…is that good? also im really nervous because even though i get 80 right i feel like i was just lucky, and i definately do not feel confident with the knowledge i know. I also think i am screwed for free response… does anyone else have this, doing ok on a practice but do not feel prepared at all?? do i have a chance for a 5, how accurate is cliffs

my email adress is sharon1515@ymail.com

@sharoed, I’m totally with you. I do reasonably well on all practice tests I do (75-85), which is comfortably in 5 range, but I’m just terrified I will get a frq and have no idea how to answer it

kati444, thank you!!!

My teacher is telling us usually 1 frq is about a lab…she’s guessings it’s HW equilibrium or chi square, if it i chi square analysis I am royally screwed…
But in all serious, if you do well on the MC and do well on 2 of the 4 frq you can easily get a 5…
Any one have any other guesses on what the frqs are going to be on?

My teacher said the same thing about the FRQs (maybe we have the same teacher oO ). I’m really nervous about the FRQs, I was looking at some of the ones from previous years, and o__o enough said

alot of people are speculating that we are looking at questions on the Drosophila Lab (and chi squared, unfortunately) and photosynthesis
