Does Peterson’s AP Biology and Pearson’s Preapring for the AP Biology prep books are good as other prep books?

My ap bio class is the hardest class i’ve taken so far.
we have a lot of stuff. lots of labs. i have a pretty good teacher. she’s been teaching it for several years. I do have to work my butt off. studied really hard for this recent test on photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Did pretty bad on it. but overall my grades in this class is good.

Trust me, just get cliffs AP Bio about a week before the exam and go through it. It is pretty much a guaranteed high 4/5 if you do. This is the book I am talking about: [Amazon.com: CliffsAP Biology (Cliffs Ap Biology) (9780470097649): Phillip E. Pack Ph.D.: Books](http://www.amazon.com/CliffsAP-Biology-Cliffs-Ap/dp/0470097647/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1288463752&sr=8-1).

You guys should also get this book and use it during the school year for class tests; IT IS THAT GOOD!

Hi, I’m junior taking this class, (along with about a million other APs) and it’s honestly the hardest class I’ve ever taken. I love science but i have a horrible teacher; he’s great as a person, but cannot teach if his life depended on it. So, basically i’m not doing too well grade-wise and i don’t think i’m learning too much. We’re using the campbell book and are required to read it and know it for chapter and unit quizzes. Can anyone recommend any prep books or study guides to use in conjunction with the textbook? i was looking at the Cliffs book, as well as the Campbell Student Study Guide. Any help would be reallllyy appreciated :)

ok so i read through the other 4384398 pages of this thread and i take it that Cliffs and Barrons are both good for reviewing for the exam, but are they good for use during the year too?

^Depends on if your teacher does AP style exams or not. If so, yes probably. If they give tests on Campbells, no.

Hey, sorry for being so annoying lol. can anyone comment on the Campbell student study guide? does anyone have any experience with it?? is it worth getting?

[Amazon.com: Study Guide for Biology (9780805371550): Martha R. Taylor: Books: Reviews, Prices & more](http://www.amazon.com/Study-Guide-Biology-Martha-Taylor/dp/0805371559/ref=pd_sim_b_28)

Would you all say it’s possible to self-study the exam?

@happyjunior,
Dont bother getting that book. It was a complete waste of my money because I never used it, and the summaries were just TERRIBLE. Some of the aspects were decent such as the concept maps but it is not worth it…

So, where are you guys now?

so what chapter are you guys on? We are about to get started on chapter 20.

I just finished chapter 16. But I also already did chapters 52-54.

I’m self studying for the exam because my teacher is absolutely terrible. We literally sit in class and color diagrams of phospholipid bilayers every day. We have not learned anything this whole school year. She’s a new AP bio teacher. She is also a honors bio teacher, but everyone in our school has complained about her to the guidance counselors, etc, ever since like 2 years ago. She still hasn’t gotten fired. A lot of people tend to not understand what I mean when I say “she doesn’t teach at all…” (or at least my friends who aren’t in her class and my parents…). Well, I just wanted to put it out there that she DOESN’T TEACH AT ALL!!! And I’m getting very worried about the AP exam and SAT II test that I’m going to take…My teacher’s tests are actually not too hard, but the problem is that she doesn’t teach AT ALL… so basically, even though her test’s aren’t very hard at all, the highest grade in our class consisting of 23 people was a 72%… sigh…and the bulk of the class got around 50% or less…

Anyways, I just wanted to ask if it was okay if I read the Cliff’s guide, and not read the Campbell’s Textbook? Because the Campbell’s textbook is sooooo comprehensive… sigh, and I really really don’t want to read that humongous textbook. I was wondering if I could substitute the Cliff’s study guide for the Campbell’s textbook.

Thanks guys! sorry for ranting

Achieve,
I have the same problem. My teacher literally teaches us nothing. We sit in class and talk about random stuff like whether Walmart is good or bad. When he does try to lecture us, we somehow always get off topic. He gives us insanely hard tests every 4 months or so on material we haven’t even covered yet. We are so far behind, so I am basically teaching myself too. I will be using Cliff Notes and flashcards. I will be reading the text book also.

For self-studying (which I did NOT do, although my teacher was far from great), I would recommend reading Cliff’s thoroughly (at least twice), and if possible, skimming Cliff’s (or whichever textbook you use). Study any concepts using your textbook that Cliff’s doesn’t cover well enough for you.

In essence, read as much of the textbook or other comprehensive material as you can, and use Cliff’s to “bring it all together”.

Achieve, I had the same question, but a different situation. The advice I got was that if you want to do well on the Exam and SAT test, read the prep book. If you really like biology and want to do something with it in the future, then read the book. Campbell’s is an excellent book, very, very detailed

Hello. My school’s AP Bio teacher is really great and teaches us a lot of valuable knowledge (sometimes more than AP biology stuffs); the only problem is that he rarely gives out the homeworks or projects.
Our class finished Campbell Biology 8th e/d’s Chp. 51~56 & 1~16. We also finished Lab 11~12 & 1~6. Is this fast or pretty normal?
Now since the exam is approaching, I like to choose prep books. Do anybody uses “Student Study Guide to Campbell Biology” or “Holzclaw’s How to Prepare for AP Biology Exam”?? Are they good or less than CLiffs or Barron’s?

Y’all are so lucky (to an extent) you’re actually taking an AP Bio class. I love bio, so I’m forced to self-study it.

CaliAdvitam! How do you study AP Bio Labs if you are self-studying? If you are using LabBench, is it helpful?

Well, I take a regular Biology 2 class since our school doesn’t offer AP Bio and Bio 2 is the closest thing we have :o
