I'm a senior going to U of I next year majoring in Bio. I went to an admitted students day yesterday and they told me if I get credit in either bio or chem I should not take the credit. They said the mcb 250 class is too difficult to start in, and the chem was too.

I took both of these classes my senior year, got a b+ in the bio and an A in the chem. What do you guys think I should do? Should I forfeit all the credit and take mcb 150 and ib 150, or just take ib 150 or take neither. What should i do about the chem. I would prefer to take the second semester of chem only because of the intro to organic.

for biology, do not use your ap credits. mcb150 is relatively tough intro course which goes in much more depth than an ap class. and like they said, mcb 250 is a ***** of a class, and you’ll hear premeds talk left and right about how hard it is (it really isn’t that bad though). if you’re just coming into uiuc, take mcb 150 and ib 150. i guarantee it won’t be like your hs biology class, and it’ll help you when the upper level bio classes come around.

chem is up to you. if you feel that you are comfortable with gen chem stuff (acid/base, lewis dot structures, thermo, vsepr, etc), then take 104. as you said, half of 104 is an intro to organic chem. and when you start with orgo, you’ll be expected to know the basic things learned in 104 (substitution, elimination, stereochemistry…).
