AP Biology credit BME

Hi, I was wondering if I were to get a 4 or 5 in AP Biology, would the credit count towards BME? I know that it counts for credit, but there is no General Biology course requirement for BME. So I was wondering if I could count it, at the least, as an elective.

Thanks in advance.

You’re right in that there’s no General Bio requirement for BME. The BME program has a pretty extensive list of requirements, and there’s only officially 6 credits of “elective” in the curriculum. However, by department policy, AP Bio and AP Stats cannot be used to count towards those elective credits. So while the credits for AP Bio will appear on your transcript, they won’t count towards anything for the BME major.

So like then what AP exams can you get credit for that apply to BME major?

I believe there is also no General Requirement for a B.S. in Biology, am I right?

insub002: Correct, the BS Bio major has no gen Bio requirement; the BA major does require Gen Bio

ZombieDante: You can count AP Chemisty, Physics and Calculus towards BME requirements, and count others towards elective requirements (Econ, foreign language etc)

You can also use AP Computer Science to satisfy the 3-credit Computer Programming requirement for the BME major. If you took AP Computer Science A, you would need a score of 5. For AP Computer Science AB, a score of 4 or 5 will count.

^ AB Computer Science has been discontinued. You need a solid 5 in AP A Computer Science to get the 3 credits.

^ Sorry, I didn’t realize AB Comp Sci had been discontinued. Thanks for the correction.

I know the JHU student handbook states otherwise, but does anyone recommend trying to clear as many difficult courses as possible in first semester freshman year? Because of the “covered” grades policy?

@ SdoiumFree, n/p
@ JustAnotherTry, I know some current students have tried doing that and succeeded.
