***AP Biology Thread 2015-2016***

I’m really hoping this isn’t like the biology sat II… Does anybody know if the ap biology exam and molecular biology subject test correlate at all each year? (Sorry dumb question but I’m freaking out. Ap bio was rough)

@snavea
I think no, i just took sat ii bio this past sat and it was hard but very different. They cover slightly diff topics and have very different type of questions.

@snavea took the may exam a few days ago (molecular) and to me, it was way different. the sat II went into depth for all/most topics, whereas i felt that the ap bio exam was mostly scientific skills (like the science portion of the act) and didn’t require you to know too much of the details and facts.

overall they don’t correlate that much because the sat II spans all topics and ap bio doesn’t always do that.

It isn’t full of a million application-based questions though, right? @bse15578

Ok thank you so much. I feel a lot more solid on content mostly because my ap bio teacher is really good at teaching. I felt like I was shooting in the dark with all of those ap biology exam mcqs :frowning: @dancinginastorm

Really pissed off - I wasted my entire weekend (almost 20 hrs of total studying) and I didn’t need to use 90% of the material I memorized for the test. I thought MC was easy, but I took way too much time early on the FRQ’s which screwed me in the end and I missed basically an entire FRQ question. I didn’t realize how much time pressure was a factor in the FRQ’s so I took my time. Anyways, definitely got at least a 4, maybe a lucky 5…

@snavea no problem! and i’m sure you’ll do great on the sat II because a strong background in the content is what you need to do well!

@blargenshmargen SAME HERE. I overestimated the difficulty of the test, ended up overstudying and went wayyy into detail (there were literally no questions on the human body systems, wth!!!) so yeah… i’m kinda pissed at myself for bad time management during the test and focusing on learning the itty bitty details of the content when i should have been doing practice tests to get better at speed reading and pacing.

I had the same problem… I spent so much time studying photosynthesis and cell respiration and it wasn’t even on the exam!!!

Yeah I didn’t think this test was really fair… The FRQ was skewed too much towards one big idea. I know for me I got screwed because of that. Now I know I’m going to get a terrible score compared to if the FRQ were well-rounded. Ugh. I hope there are some protests against this test because of how many units it neglected (I doubt there will be, but a little part of me hopes that once they release the FRQ people will start making a fuss).

YO OKAY THIS TEST WAS STUPID

Spent so much time studying everything. Like ask me about meiosis and I can give you detailed drawings and explanation. Ask me about the function of the kidney and I will describe the purpose of the nephron. Ask me about
any topic that we ACTUALLY COVERED in AP bio and I can explain it to you, but then CB just decides to chuck 90% of that out the window and replace it with ACT Science.

I should have taken and ACT practice test instead of studying all night.

@SugarSmarts IKR so pissed right now because I thought memorizing the content we’re supposed to be tested on would be enough but apparently not
for some of the FRQ questions, I had no idea how to ‘justify’ my answers, and some of the questions weren’t even a topic I could have studied for

My reaction to the AP Bio test: (take out spaces)

@crowningflowers I felt that way too. The first couple of FRQs took some time.

@glassflowers YES EXACTLY I HATE COLLEGEBOARD

I felt today the test was hard even harder than the barrons and practice tests of college board. I am so scared and worried. Can someone tell me if he has the same feeling

I felt it was very hard. The Multiple choice questions were not the same at all as i practiced in college board released exams or even barrons. The Frq was very hard. I feel i am going to fail after all this studying. I am so pissed.

But guys
If we all fail

The curve will be good

lmao this ap bio test is literally an ACT science test in disguise. lol there was barely any bio it tested. I felt like the mc was pretty easy but the free response was annoying. I had to cram so much writing wth.

@an88gela I also took the exam today. The most I think i missed was 20 multiple choice and 2-3 points on frgs. I have a few questions because you seem knowledgeable:

  1. Im just wondering where you are getting this information.
  2. Is your information coming from the last page of this website?
MODERATOR’S NOTE: Link deleted. Not allowed.
  3. Finally, have you heard anything about the 79% cutoff? Correct me if im wrong, but apparently bozeman science said (im not sure whether it was in a video or a message because i cant find it) that the cutoff for a 5 is 79% in section 1 (multiple choice). I have only seen two posts about this on the internet but im not sure if they are quoting him wrong or what.

Thank you!
