If the question was phrased like “IDENTIFY [insert concept here] and then EXPLAIN/JUSTIFY your reasoning”, I think those are two separate criteria for the question and thus you should get points for a correct explanation/justification.
Yeah…I took the exam today and I thought the FRQ were ridiculously easy, pretty sure I only got 5 pts off max. The MC I found kinda difficult, maybe 10-15 off, including one of the grid ins that I know I screwed up. I did a lot of practice exams so time wasn’t an issue for me, but a lot of people I talked to struggled with that. Does anyone know if what I described would get me a 5? That’s the only score I’ll be happy with. And I agree, wasted my entire weekend studying immunology, endocrine, and nervous systems. Where was that on the test, idk. Oh well, at least it’s over now
Can anyone explain how Section I (MC/grid-ins) and Section II (FRQs) are scored together? I know each section is worth 50%, but how do they translate the raw scores on each section to the score they use to determine our official score (1-5)?
If some of the things we wrote on the FRQ are incorrect, is it true that the graders ignore those parts and grade what is correct, assuming you don’t contradict yourself?
did anyone else have form D??? i thought the 1st long free response for form D was incredibily difficult. mult choice was alright
I believe you receive a point for a correct explanation if the question asks you to explain it.
I based them off point values (first number is the question, second is its point value)
1: 10
2: 10
3: 4
4: 4
5: 4
6: 3
7: 3
8: 3
Add up and figure out your score for that section
The FRQ is 50% of the test, so 0.5*whatever your score was and add to 50% of your MC score to get the number out of 120 (I think???).
I’m only hoping that I did well on MC because for sure I yolo’d 5-6 of them and didn’t even get to the grid-ins because my timing was so bad. Hoping for the best for you guys, you’ll all definitely do well. I want a 5 but my school only has 1-2 5s for 3 classes of AP bio. I know the material well, it’s just that when you see the graphs and additional information, it’s a bit confusing as to where to plug in your knowledge according to the details given. Keep this thread going, the more information, the better.
@camillepowers I had form O but I heard D was MUCH harder, yeah. Ours were a joke.
^Actually our AP Bio teacher gave us a practice test in class and I think he made us multiply our FRQ score (out of 41) by 1.4 or 1.5 and add that to our MC score (out of 59).
Graders won’t take off points for incorrect info. But if you contradict yourself, they might take off major points, because they must discredit all info you tell them, not only because it is incorrect but because it is inconsistent, so they can’t just give you points for the correct reasoning when you also include incorrect reasoning.
Not sure how to calculate the final score, but multiplying each of your raw scores from each section by .5 and then adding them seems about right.
I’ve heard from multiple people who have already taken the exam that the curve is 60%. I know this seems inflated, but the exam is super tough, so they do have to keep it pretty generous. Any thoughts?
Did you guys get a ratio of 3:1?
@holycrayon there are 69 MC, not 59. Does that change how you would calculate it?
For the genotypic ration one, was it 3:1
You need 75-79% for a 5
I feel like I would have done much better if it actually tested bio knowledge and not critical reading skills T_T
@apstressesme 10 questions don’t count towards the final score on MC.
Not sure if we can discuss our answers yet… but I don’t remember getting 3:1 if you’re talking about the FRQ question.
I had 1:1:1:1 for the phenotypic ratios
^me too
