AP Calculus AB Exam

I got my ap scores back today on 5
exams and was shocked with my calc score. I had an A in the class the
whole year, and I got a 4 on the mock exam and failed
the national exam. How is that
possible? Was it because I used a
mechanical pencil instead of a
traditional #2 pencil?

I’ve never used a mechanical pencil on a standardized test myself, but you are asked to use a traditional pencil because the mechanical pencil’s marks may be too light to be read correctly by the machine. If you got a 1 or 2 and you REALLY felt like you were in the 4-5 range, you could always ask for a manual rescore of your MC section anytime before October 31st for $30 (I will assume you completed the FRQ in pen, but since that section is scored by a person, it shouldn’t be an issue, and even if it was the only thing you can do is ask for your responses back). Usually the MC rescore doesn’t work out but in your situation you may be wise to explore that course of action. Hope it all works out.

Doubtful; I’ve only ever used mechanical pencils.

Wouldn’t matter; pencil is allowed on the FRQ.
