AP Calculus AB or BC?

I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I'm choosing a math course to take next year in 11th Grade.

I got A's and B's as a freshman taking Algebra 2 Honors and ended up with a B+ final grade (89)
So far in Elementary Math Analysis this year I'm getting A's and B+'s

Next year I'm also planing to take all honors courses in addition to APUSH (which has a really tough teacher) and AP Chem (as if junior year isn't stressful enough already.)

I also have a lot of extracurriculars throughout the week and over the weekends.
My biggest one is music, so I usually spend some significant amounts of time on that

I want to be able to show colleges that I can challenge myself with a rigorous courseload, but I don't want to overwhelm myself and end up destroying my report card/GPA with a very bad grade in AP Calculus BC

What should I do? I'm open to any suggestions

Probably you may want to see if you want to go to engineering field as your major in college. BC is much more preferable and sometimes is a “requirement” for some colleges.

Take BC #YOLO

Depends on what you want to do in college and what fields you are interested in
since you got B+s in math and you’re taking all hard weighted classes like apush, it might be better to take AB. but again, depends on your interests

I’m also a sophmore and I’m planning to skip AB and take BC, but I’m really into math and will probably do computer science (or something technology related) in college. also, i’m not taking apush.

thanks guys
and yeah i do want to major in chemical engineering, so that’s the field i’m going towards as of now
I have a chance to not take APUSH if i go to summer school, but i’m trying to apply to some summer programs that i might be able to do instead

I would recommend BC, not because of colleges or anything, but because AB is unbearably slow-paced (slower than precalc).

The good thing about taking BC is that you get more credit if you do well on the exam and you get a better background in math if you are planning on going into engineering. However, if you truly don’t think you can handle it and if you have no future plans for engineering, then I suggest AB. It seems like you have a lot of other things going on and with the B’s, math might not be something that you’re just naturally good at so it will take more effort on your part. I recommend AB because it would probably put less stress on you.

Thanks for your comments everyone

@DesireeA - yes, that’s what i was thinking. I think that less stress will come with taking AB, and since it’s still an AP class it can’t be considered as too easy of a class right?

Given my past performances in math, I know that I am not the strongest math student. So with a schedule involving AP Chem and APUSH, is it reasonable to take BC Calc? Should I take the class even though there is a risk of getting a C- and severely lowering my gpa? (overexaggerating)

Take BC it’s not difficult and looks better for college. AB is really slow paced. I had low 80’s in my previous math classes and a 70 in geometry. I got a 91 and 95 for my first 2 quarters unweighted for calc BC and I skipped AB.

i appreciate all of your suggestions!
any more suggestions? i’m still deciding…sigh -___-

Take BC. I haven’t taken either but am currently self-studying BC. I have however looked at the syllabus for AB and I am nearly done with all the AB topics.

Take BC, it counts for more. Make sure you don’t go to one of those picky colleges. some places require cal2 be taken while you attend
