AP Calculus AB Textbook Question

In order to take AP Calculus AB as a "class" at my school I am independently studying it. I have to present a lesson plan to the principle and I was just wondering how far (which chapter) you guys got in your AP Calculus Textbook (Calculus...Larson, Hostetler, and Edwards......http://www.amazon.com/Calculus-Analytic-Geometry-8th-Larson/dp/061850298X)

If you wouldn't mind, could you include how far you got in the book, your score/how prepared you felt for the test, and any supplemental books you used? Also, if you have any opinions on it, do you feel that you went too far/not far enough in your textbook in class?

Thank you so much :)

P.S. I realize that this should be in the AP forum but the AP forum isn't getting much action this time of year and I need to present soon, so sorry about reposting!

I took this last year. I believe we got through chapter 7 (the book looks the same). Basically, you should cover derivatives and integrals in depth and then get through volumes of solids (chapter 7). We didn’t use any supplemental materials other than the usual tests/quizzes. We did use old AP tests to prepare for the AP test (we basically just did all the old AP problems that are commonly available on the internet). Good luck!

Most importantly memorize ALL the calc formulas.

Get a Princeton Review/barrons/whatever AP review book to review in ~ April to really study for the AP

Download as many of the FRQ’s from the Collegeboard Calc AB website to practice. Last year on the Calc BC AP, one of the FRQ was almost exactly the same as one from the previous year.

‘1. Most importantly memorize ALL the calc formulas.’- I can’t say how wrong this is. I memorized about 1 formula and I got a 5. This is actually terrible advice. Formulas aren’t at all critical to the test. Just know the concepts.

Great, thank you!

AP calc AB (fun class!) we got to chapter 8 or chapter 9 (definitely after volumes and cylindrical shapes. after the parahsell and perpendiscular…

i took the AB exam but it was part of BC (cuz i went on to BC too) and i scored 5s on both… the test was super easy…pay attention in class, do homework, if you dont understand it then look at a review book, and boom youre good to go!
