Okay so one of my counselors from UCLA recommended taking AP Cal, despite my C in Pre-Cal. I have trouble with math, and that is why I am hesitant to jump on board. In addition, I will be taking AP Lit, AP Gov, and perhaps AP Psych, so I am worried about my course load. Math is definitely NOT my strongest subject. I currently strrugle in Pre-Cal/Trigonometry, but If it makes me more appealing to colleges, I am more than willing to take it. Thank you! (:
For the record, I'm aiming for a small liberal arts college, not a large university like UCLA etc.

I thought AP Calc was very straightforward and methodical in nature. I’m usually good at math, but calculus was especially easy for me – I’m pretty sure I got a 5 on the exam. With a little extra practice outside of class, I’m sure you could do very well in AP Calc. And if you struggled with identities (like many people do), don’t worry, because you don’t have to use them on AP Calc!

Thanks! That’s a great feeling when you feel like you got a 5 on an AP test. Okay I will definitely get some outside practice, perhaps some sort of tutoring. Thanks again!

Yes, once you learn the basics of calculus, you will find that AP calculus is quite straightforward. However, your pre-calc (especially trig) needs to be solid, so I suggest reviewing basic trig and identities before taking AP Calculus. Always helps to know what sin(4pi/3) is…

But once you see the basic notions of a derivative and integral, you’ll find them to be very intuitive and enjoyable.
