AP Calculus BC v.s. SAT Reasoning math?

if you study both, i think it will be easier to get 5 on calc bc than to get 800 on SAT math

the SAT math is much much more of a factor in college admissions than any ap.

calc is more straightforward but the concept is harder

for me BC Calc Exam was easier than the math section on the SAT in terms of getting the best score
this is due to the difference in the way the two assessments are graded

I expect to do better on Math IIc than SAT Reasoning Math as well

what's the best way to study for SAT reasoning math?

I think there is no doubt about AP Calc BC a much much harder subject than a SAT I Math Reasoning test.

But don't confuse getting a perfect score on one or the other as the test of hardness.

There are persons who can get perfect scores on SAT I Math or SAT II Math but still have much less knowledge of Math than required to do even the simplest calculus.

SAT Test taking skills are totally a different things. You may find students with lower math sequences at high school scoring better on SAT Math than those taking calculus.

My daughter took AP Calc BC in 10th grade but got 770 on SAT Math II C where lots of student taking pre-calculus score 800.

To the OP:

SAT Math score: 710

BC Calc Score: Don't know yet. I bombed it though. If it was possible to get a score lower than 1, that's what I'd get.

Conclusion: BC is WAAAAAAAAAY harder than SAT Math

Well.... it depends, I thought SAT I math is harder because you have to get everything right as well as do it in the time limit, whereas with Calc BC there is the whole free response and stuff, which is easier for me (personal opinion)

Also the SAT I is much trickier because it is more basic skills

Erm... Free Response appears easier at first, but it will be the hardest free response out of all your AP tests. There's even a Facebook group with 5000 members complaining about how crappy the Free Response was this year.

I think of it as:
BC Calc > SAT II Math

800 SAT II Math > 5 BC Calc in terms of the preparation you have to go through.

Hi,

Personally, getting a perfect score on the Sat I or II is much, much harder than getting a 5 on the AP Calc exam. for the person who said that the AP is not memorization is wrong. It is all memorization and using the formulas, and not really applying and analyzing concepts. My AP Chem exam or Comp Sci was much more about applying the material in diff. ways, and I didn't feel that the AP Calc exam does the same thing. However in the Sat II for math or the Sat I is much harder because even the smallest careless mistakes can cost you much more than the same number or type of careless mistakes will on the AP.

I hope that makes sense, and obviously y opinion is the AP is easier.

~Vint.

SAT math is an exercise in common sense and basic math. AP Calc (AB or BC) boils down to rote memorization and knowing which formula(s) to use in certain problems. This is not to say someone in Calc BC doesn't have to understand the material, but from my experience taking the AP BC test requires less actual thinking than getting an 800 on SAT math. SAT > BC.

If you're taking AP Calculus now, the basic geometry, algebra and trig on the SAT is stuff you learned at least a couple years ago. It's not that it's hard, it's that you might very well have forgotten some of it by now. I know I did.
