AP Calculus??

I am a current sophomore in a class called “Calculus AP Track” I thought it would be precalc, but it’s really introductory calculus and I’m doing very well! Since it’s normally a junior class, I have some strange options for math junior and senior year. I’m planning to take AP calc AB junior year and then AP Calc BC senior year, which seems repetitive. Or, I can take the ab exam this year (people get very mixed scores coming out of the intro class), BC junior year, and Calculus 2 and Statistics through Ohio State senior year. However, it would be a triple block and no lunch period…and calc BC is technically calc 2 right? They’re both weird options, but which is the most practical?

I would say the first option is more feasible. Is there anyway you could take Calc BC junior year (it would give you less stress) , and AP Stat or a just Stat senior year?

@Candyblossom1245 I wish I could! I feel ready for BC, but my school doesn’t offer stats other than through the OSU program. I might talk to the calc teacher and schedule a self study senior year or see if I can get a class started since there’s a lot of sophomores in the same boat!

AP Calc BC is just accelerated AB + BC. If you do well in your pre-Calc equivalent class (ie get an A), if I were you I would just straight to BC and not bother with AB.

I’d go with the second option. You’re in a super accelerated class and doing very well so you’ll be able to handle the second path’s rigor.
Calculus 2 is like BC but more in depth, with more topics.
What other classes are you going to take next year?

@MYOS1634 I’ll also be taking AP chemistry, AP Euro, AP English, and weighted Spanish 4. If I want to go in to engineering, what’s the better option?

Both are good so both would be good choices.
But would you take AP euro the same year as us history??

@MYOS1634 I’m taking AP US this year and then I’ll take Euro, then Gov. The only thing that concerns me about the second option is the triple block for something I may already get credit for through BC.

You may maximize your time at tOSU by taking another class there.
I assume the triple block includes transportation time so drying for 2 periods would make it more efficient. You could also get early release and take the classes then?
For engineering, you need a class in physics (AP physics 1 or honors physics) at some point in secondary school.
