Is it possible to "self-study" (i.e. do the work without being in the class, since there isn't any real "studying" from what I understood) for the AP Capstone series of tests? Will they qualify for AP Scholar awards?

Bump…

I believe not, my school recently introduced the capstone program. One, it’s not as helpful towards college admission as one might believe (it’s still way too new). From what I heard, even the IB diploma is starting to be acknowledged as something that is worthy of extra appraisal while the program spent years to improve and develop. Two, I believe the Seminar and Research courses involve a class project grade: team projects, research presentations… these involve a classroom scenario for the grading. Don’t let that get you down though, it’s not a boost for those who do have the diploma, colleges understand almost all schools don’t have such a program if they even bother to care about it.

I’m not interested particularly for the diploma, but I thought the overlap the course has with things I already have planned to do (research) would make it easy to “self-study”. Either way, I don’t believe I’ll be pursuing it. Also, I did find out somehow (I don’t recall now, so I can’t go reconfirm) that you must take the class to take the test anyway…
