ap chem nomenclature

i just cant seem to get all this naming stuff down. anyone have any tips or advice or an easier way?

mmm....you just have to learn it...naming is basic chemistry, so that's a shame if you can't learn naming...but it should just come to you after using it so much.

Yeah, after doing it for so long you just end up memorizing the stuff

What people said above is true. There are no other easier ways. Just get used to it.

just find the patterns and the exceptions and its basic memorization from there...

I would suggest memorizing the radicals first then the cations and the anions. Otherwise, I agree with everyone else. And oh yeah, I though nomenclature isn't covered in AP.

Basic nomenclature is something you definitely need to know for AP chem... it would be a problem if someone didn't.

To goldshadow: I meant to say that in AP, you are assumed to know how to name compounds. I don't know about other schools, but our AP Chem course is extremely rigorous and requires that you know basic concepts. Otherwise there wouldn't be time to cover a year of organic chemistry in addition to the 25 AP chapters.
