Hi,
I’m going to be a senior next school
year and I’m currently deciding between AP chem and AP bio. At my school AP bio is notorious for being really difficult because they’re required to complete a science fair project. We are finally having AP chem offered again at my school but I’m unsure of how difficult it will be. I had the teacher who will be teaching AP chem for regular chemistry and I found the class way easier than bio. I plan on majoring in psychology and I know bio would be useful for that but I know that grad schools also require that I take chemistry in college so I dont know which class would be more beneficial
AP Chemistry is considered more of a “core” STEM course that AP Biology. I’m flagging @momofsenior1, who can give you her pitch.
Ordinarily I would tell a STEM focused student to take chem, but as a psych major, I think you have more flexibility. That said, if you know you need to take chem in college, having AP under your belt will give you better preparation.
Both are rigorous courses, but I have heard that AP Chem is harder. Also, I think that there are more resources available for AP Bio instead of AP Chem. For instance, Bozeman Science, Fiveable, Amoeba Sisters, and others are all available to help you study for Bio. Considering this, I feel that AP Bio would be the most useful as you would have a variety of resources available to help you pass the class and get a 5 on the exam.
