AP Chem or AP Comp Science

AP Chem is one of the hardest classes at my school, already taking AP Stat and AP Euro, do I need AP Chem or can I just do regular and do Comp Science?

For HYPSM and Wharton (Ivies)

Take AP Comp Sc, more useful than AP chem (since you are not premed/bio). Take regular Chem.

Thanks, that’s probably what I am going to end up doing.

I really think AP Comp Sci is crucial. Not because you will ever program in your life (though there’s a good chance you might) but because it teaches a type of thinking that no other course (save Discrete Math, if you’ve had the opportunity - few have) in high school demands.

Honestly, I don’t think it will make that much difference – well, unless you want to be a chem or chem e major or a computer sciences major, of course.

Yeah I am planning to do some kind of comp science/Econ/finance major and minors

Regardless of future plans, intellectually I found CS to be one of my most stimulating APs. Mileage may vary, but I think especially for your interests it’s a deal.

Should I just not take chemistry at all and just do physics and bio stuff with computer science? Or should I do regular Chem with computer science ?

I think you should still take chemistry, since there is some useful stuff in there. For my school, AP CS was the coolest class: we played games all day. I ended up with a 5 and an A+. Hands down best class ever. Some people will find the class very interesting, logical, and useful. However, there are others who can’t get their minds in the right set, and have difficulty making connections when programming. You can overcome this, but it will take more work.

I will still take AP Chem next year. Note: I’ve heard the AP test for Chem is the hardest one, do not know if it’s true.

Why not both? I regret not taking AP Chem or AP Bio… I am taking AP CS the second time right now, which is data structures and algorithms. But just a warning, you either have the nack for CS, or you don’t. This is prevalent on every level.
