AP Chem Unsureness?

I'm a rising sophomore, and I'm planning on taking AP Chem junior year.

I took honors chem freshman year and got ~92% both semesters. It wasn't EXTREMELY difficult for me, although some topics were... challenging for me.

My teacher did recommend me to AP Chem, but I was really hesitant because I want to get a good score and not struggle.

How can I improve my chem skills before junior year and is it really difficult for someone who is decent at chemistry?

It depends on your teacher. Chem acc was a little hard for me but my AP chem teacher was amazing and I thought it was pretty easy. We didn’t learn new material so much as we went deeper into concepts we already knew, so review the material from freshman year next summer (I guess you’re taking bio this year?) and if you understand the principles you should be in pretty good shape. You could always find some practice problems/get an AP prep book early too if you’re really worried.

I was decent in Honors Chem sophomore year and my teacher insisted i take AP Chem. I’ll have to admit…the class was really hard. I definitely failed a couple tests because i just outright didnt understand some things.

That being said, i was a complete idiot and didnt seek out extra help. Also, everything i learned in AP Chem expanded on things i learned the year before, and a lot of connections were made. Plus, the lab experience was really cool AND a lot of the topics were interesting, so it wasnt really a dull class.

I literally thought i would get a 2 on the AP Exam when i took it, but i ended up getting a 5. It all comes down to practice.

Your teacher has the best grasp out of all of us strangers in the internet. If s/he thinks you can do it, you probably can. However, you will, probably, struggle.

Struggling is good-- it means you’re being challenged and learning not just the material, but also what kinds of support you need in order to become successful.

I think you should pick up the Barrons SAT-II and study it. It helps tremendously for AP Chem.
