AP chem versus SAT2?

which one do you guys think is harder in general? i'm planning on taking the sat2 in june after having just taken the ap.

AP chem is considerably harder. I would say about half of what is on the SAT II is general chem stuff. If you were prepared for the AP you shouldn’t have any problems with the test.

AP chem should prepare you pretty well. I took the chem subject test in May, and then took AP chem.

The chem subject test is definitely easier, but it can also be tricky. Make sure you know all your basic stuff. After a year of AP chem, I was surprised at how rusty I was at some basic concepts.

They’re two different test styles. I would possibly advise just going to a bookstore and browsing through one of the SAT Chem subject tests in a Princeton Review book. It will give you a feel for the question type.

Also, make sure you’re comfortable with TTCE type questions. There are 15 of these and they can be confusing. What I would do is read each statement separately and mark T or F for each, then read the statements together if both are true. Then mark CE if the explanation is logical.

Good luck.

Actually I would say that the chem SAT is harder than the chem AP exam. On the AP exam you need to get around 65% to get a 5, the top score, while you need about 95% to get an 800 on the SAT II.

Although the questions are harder on the AP exam, the curve more than makes up for the difficulty.

Is the content basically the same? Like the AP syllabus is equal to sat 2.

no, AP chem covers everything that sat 2 does at a really advance level.

if youre in an ap chem class, the mc for the ap test should be wayyy easier than the sat ii one. the tt ce stuff is pretty tricky and the questions are generally more straightforward and less conceptual since its so advanced and directed
but then again, if youre in the class, and have a good teacher, the sat ii is an easy 800 or high 700s. at least with me…
the free response is ten times harder than any of the mc, especially the 09 test, which i thought was pretty ridiculous compared to all the past fr

I took ap chem late this year and it was very hard. The mc wasn’t as bad. You’re saying the SAT 2 will be harder, even though isn’t the equivalent of a freshman college course like ap is?

the questions seem harder because there are less calculations, less charts/graphs, less direct answers in the sat ii
in ap chem, the questions are at such an advanced level that it gets easier to pinpoint the right answer because you either know it or you dont. the hard part isnt really the mc, its the free response
of course, all in all, the sat ii questions cover much more basic material, so technically they’re easier
theyre two different types of tests so you cant exactly compare them like that
material wise, the sat iis are easier
question wise, i think the ap mc is easier

They’re two DIFFERENT exams. SAT 2 like most of the SAT tests is a test which tests how you can apply chemistry to the questions asked while AP Chem tests on pure ADVANCED chemistry questions.

That makes me feel better then. Because AP was hard!!

yeah shizzle i agree… the AP exam was beastly

I got a 4 on the AP and got a 730 on the Subject (which is treated like a 5), but the free-response on the AP test were REALLY easy (I probably would have gotten a 2 without the free-response). SAT II does not have free-response.

I got a 5 on the AP and a 710 on the subject. I’m not sure what was wrong with me that day.

yah i think the AP was wayyyy easier
but that might have been b/c i didn’t realize we only had 1 hour for the SAT II till I got there so moved slower than I should have
