Hi all!
I’m thinking of taking AP Chem next year, but I’m having second thoughts. Here are the issues:
-The teacher is incredibly incompetent. I have him this year, and while he’s a great person, he couldn’t teach the material if his life depended on it.
-I’m worried about compromising my other AP scores. I"m also taking APUSH, AP Calc BC, AP Spanish, and AP Lang. I’m honestly hoping for a 5 on all of these, and I feel like stressing over chem with destroy my chances for other classes.
-I’m not thinking of going into a STEM major. Not sure what to major in now, but I’m hoping to ultimately go to law school.
But on the other hand:
-I’ve done incredibly well in chemistry honors this year. I have a 98% in the class right now, and I haven’t done HW/studied outside of class once, despite having HW threeish times a week
-My other options are anatomy honors or physics honors. Anatomy “looks like a slacker class” according to my counselor. I can’t stand physics.
-My parents have stressed to me that taking advanced science in high school is the only way they will pay for my undergrad.
I’m at a loss, and my counselor is too busy to help me right now.
