***AP Chemistry (2016-2017)***

If what my teacher says is true, then it is somewhat important. Especially for understanding titration.

I did not use much books but some Youtube channels were great at explaining things. You can look up chemistNATE, bozeman science. These channels helped out a lot, best of luck!

Guys just to bump this topic up again. What did you guys find as a good review book? I have the Princeton Review and the 5 steps to a 5 book. But I feel like they’re all really vague and don’t really cover much. I’m also looking at the Zumdahl textbook and it’s been pretty helpful but what are your suggestions?

I would say you take a couple of practice tests and find you weak spots. Bozeman science, Chemistry NMSI, Princeton Review is great ( it is a little lacking in the math) but practice tests are good. Also watch khan academy.

Any tips on time management for FRQs? I only ever have time to finish about half before time runs out… I just don’t know how thoroughly I need to explain my steps and include everything for the grader, and that’s very time-consuming…

^^^^ How do you time manage on the test? Every book says we should run through the test and just skip the questions you know are time consuming and then go back to them at the end. But how thorough do you have to be on the FRQ? A lot of books emphasize sig figs and always talking about the core theme of the question.

You want to avoid restating the question. Do straight in the the explanation. Some of the ,ath questions it might as for justification. The math and problem solution is the justification. State it in the simplest terms as overstating can make you lose points as well.

Anyone know how FR is grades especially the ones with multiple parts. Like if i forget a 0 and put down 0.01 instead of 0.001 and that messes up all the other parts do I get 0 points or do I get most the points for doing the right work just wrong number.

and are coordinate compounds a big part of the test? like is this stuff significant enough to spend a lot of time on it? Same with molecular orbital theory and stuff.

@kassh4 you will get zero or partial marks on the question that you messed up on depending on where they give tou the marks. but if you did the following questions correctly that corresponds with the previous answers you will get a full mark

There are quite a few review articles that incorporate the Bozeman Science AP Chemistry videos here that may be helpful for prep: https://www.albert.io/blog/?s=ap+chemistry

There is also a 2017 projected score calculator here: https://www.albert.io/blog/ap-chemistry-score-calculator/

Does anyone know which parts of the VSEPR models we have to know? Cliffs (is this a good/well recommend review book for AP Chem? it seems VERY detail oriented) only says to know linear, trigonal planar, and tetrehedral, but PR includes those + trigonal bypyramidal and octahedral.

Anyone know why college board seems to be really afraid of releasing MCs for Chemistry? It’s the only test in which there is no 2012 full practice exam released, and I can’t find any MCQs anywhere at all (except for those Chinese stolen MCQ books). Self studying from HK

Because they reuse the questions

@SerenePotato You can try to look up practice questions in the google

If anyone has any questions, I’m willing to answer. I’ve done a fairly thorough study of the topics on the exam and the essential knowledge. Good luck preparing in these final weeks.

@skieurope All the other subjects don’t? Damn.

It’s the same for all subjects. In no instance does the CB release MC every year.

Yo everyone, test is in less than 10 days I’m scared … I’ve been really inconsistent on the practice tests ranging from 45%-80% overall and I was just wondering if y’all think this years test will be harder than last years? I have no idea what the hell CollegeBoard has in mind, care to enlighten me anyone?

Also, for the people who have taken the test in the past, are there specific types of questions that will be on their FOR SURE? (For example in MC: rate law, IMF, equilibrium, etc) or (FRQ: Titration, Galvanic cell etc…)

THANK U AND GOD BLESS EVERYONE WHOS TAKING IT SOON

7 days guys! Best of luck to everyone taking this exam! Hope everyones last few days of studying are successful and helps everyone achieve the score they want!
