What do you guys think this year’s curve is gonna be like?
@CheckMate123 That question has been asked about 15 times earlier in this thread… See my earlier replies… While some of you think the test was “so hard”, as an AP teacher I thought it was straight forward and my kids seemed to think they were well prepared for it. I (and many other AP teachers) think it was easy and straightforward, and many students will do just fine on it, so I don’t anticipate it being to low…
Along with with, we’ll never know what the cut scores on this year’s “O” test are…
@DLithium The most appropriate answer amongst AP teachers has been that it will decrease the amount of energy put into the water above due to some of the mass being water that was vaporized… Other teachers suggest that an answer similar to the burning money where the water doesn’t evaporate, while the water burns, and thus there is no difference in energy would be acceptable. I think the first answer is what they were looking for, but I’d almost have to think they’d have to accept and answer with explaination such as my second answer.
I think the cutoff for a 4 for will be 58-62.
@APChemTeacher Would you say this exam (based on the FRQ, of course) is on par with International 2015 exam?
Do you think (Again, based on the FRQ’s) that this exam was easier than the 2016 international exam?
Thanks for your help!
I am a senior, I plan on self-studying for AP Chemistry exam for May 2018. Would you say the exam was really hard compared to other APs. My goal is to score a 5 on the exam like you. Could you tell me how I need to study so I can get a 5. Do we really have to put in lot of time starting August or wait till March to study. I am worried, any tips or advice that would help me score a 5.
@Ghyt2584 Depends on your chem background. If you had a very good Chem 1 class you can probably get away with skipping the first two big ideas which will allow you to start later. The content isn’t too difficult I’d say but you have to stay on top of it. If you don’t understand something figure it out asap cuz the content builds upon itself.
@ak2018 1 3 1 3
i found draft answers for the exam: https://www.adriandingleschemistrypages.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/2017-Draft-Answers.pdf&hl=en_US
it even comes with possible scoring points for each question.
Looking at those tweets makes me really nervous, because I felt so good after the exam but I’m having second thoughts. I thought question 6 was easy, I can’t believe a lot of people scored zero. But majority of people got 2’s, which is a fail! I’m just hoping to pass with a 3, but a 4 would be good.
So I spent all my spring break studying in the library, spent all my weekends after, and even fricken spent the nights studying this particular topic above other exams (ap world which i only studied for a week but I still got a 4… also i didn’t know how to write a DBQ or LEQ so idk). In addition to studying, I created a 48 page study guide to study… I even studied with my friend. I invested about more than 100 hours on this fricken exam.
Yet, I still got a 4…
I got a 4, but I had a 101 fever and insane headache so I think I can excuse myself for not getting a 5 lol
3 ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I will say that I’m disappointed, considering I put my blood, sweat, and tears (especially the tears) into this class all year.
I’m gonna get over it though. Remember, it’s just a number, y’all. It’s just a number.
I got a 5 but frankly I have no idea how (I totally blanked on all things related to titration).
For future AP chem students, I highly suggest the Barron’s prep book, the National Math and Science Initiative Notes and Video Explanations, and Kahn academy. Also, become familiar with the course structure/key concept on the college board website early in the class. Knowing what kind of info the exam is going to test on is really helpful.
Hope all of you guys get the score you wanted! Whatever it is, just know that this was a REALLY hard class!
rip
i got a 4
I got a 5!!! Because my teacher literally gave us tests with problems harder than the AP exam!!! So I’m super happy with my score but rip my actual class grade lol
Late af but I got a 5. Only used NMSI and pr. Teacher was utterly useless lmao. He said he wanted to make us fall in love with chem not pass a test. He succeeded hahaha
I meant to post this a few months ago, but whatever. I got a 3 on that test. I won’t say I’m disappointed, because I’m satisfied with a passing score, but I would have liked at least 4. But because I’m a freshman, and AP Chem, one of the hardest AP classes, was the first ap class I took, I believe I did fine. Good luck to all you with your ap classes next year.
ahahaha I got a 4 and let’s be honest, in retrospect that 5 just wasn’t gonna happen! It was the first test and right after prom so I def didn’t study as much as I should have. Oh well! Glad it’s over.
