Ap Chemistry Math?

So i know we can’t use calculators on AP chemistry. How many math questions are there? So for example stoichiometry requires some math, will there be a lot of questions where you have to use math to solve the answer, or is most of the test just memorization or facts? If you could help me out that’d be great!

If I remember correctly, you only need basic algebra (e.g. solving a quadratic), and some knowledge of logarithms (as pH is defined as the negative logarithm (base 10) of the H+ concentration). It’s been a while since I took AP Chem, but the math shouldn’t be too intensive. Since you’re not allowed to use a calculator, the questions shouldn’t be computationally difficult.

The math for AP Chem isn’t heavy. If you want to understand some derivations (ex finding the integrated rate laws in kinetics), you’d have to use calculus, but you only need basic algebra knowledge up to logarithms to do the chemistry calculations.

When I took the AP Chem exam last year (2014 exam), there was hardly any math. It’s more likely to be in a free response question, but it is never something extremely difficult or time consuming. It will probably just be part of a question used to help you answer the next part of the free response question.
For example, last year we were asked to calculate the moles of a precipitate and the mass percent of Iodine. They will give all the necessary information to solve the math in the question and you can use your formula sheet, so it’s not hard at all. Here’s a link to last year’s free response so you can check it out or practice: https://secure-media.collegeboard.org/ap-student/pdf/chemistry/ap14_frq_chemisty.pdf
Any math that could appear in a multiple choice question will be something simple that could be done without a calculator, or they will ask you to estimate something. It’s not bad at all. Good luck!

Okay thank you! Thanks for the free response also, it should be helpful. Fingers crossed that I do okay on the exam.
