Hi I’m currently a freshman in high school and I’m going to be a sophomore next year. At the school I go to, gym is a required class that you have to take to graduate high school. I want to take AP history and AP chemistry next year but my counselor told me to take gym and get it over with. I could probably test out of gym but I’m not sure if I’ll pass. I really want my GPA to go up next year to a 4.3 but if I take gym I’ll only be able to get a 4.166. What should I do? Should I take AP chemistry next year and just take gym my 12th grade year?. My teacher told me colleges like to see you taking harder classes as you get older and that gym my senior year would look really bad when applying to universities. What should I do?
I’m a freshman too but I was able to take gym this year to “get it over with” as your counselor said. I think your best option would be to try and test out of gym, but if you don’t pass, I think you should take it your senior year and take AP Chem next year. Colleges do like to see you taking harder classes as you get older but they will understand that taking gym is a graduation requirement and won’t count it against you. Good luck in AP Chemistry
Thank you! I’m probably going to try and test out at the end of the year and I just got my AP contract form. I’m probably going to just take gym for now and if I pass the test out I’ll switch right over to AP chemistry! But thank you so much!
