So I'm currently a freshman, but we have to do sophomore course selection right now. I want to take AP Chemistry next year, but I'm kind of terrified.

Right now I'm taking Honors Chemistry, and I have an A-. My teacher (who is also the AP Chem teacher) recommended me for AP Chem, but he said to "be prepared for the possibility of getting a B".

I am Asian so obviously Bs are not allowed. ;) (actually, I'm ok with getting Bs)
HOWEVER, I'd rather get a B in history, or in language arts, than in science or math b/c I want to major in something in the biology/chemistry fields.

I've talked to some current sophomores in AP Chemistry, and what they've said - not the most encouraging. 6 hours spent on labs over the weekends, struggling, spending hours studying for tests. One of them outright said to not take it b/c it's a stupid move.

Not sure what to do... Should I take it? =/

If it’s something you’re interested in, take it. Of course, it’s rigorous, but having that class sophomore year makes a lot of other APs feel much easier afterward.

I’m not for taking both the honors and AP course of a class (don’t have honors at my school with AP courses), but try it regardless if you can’t cram in a replacement 5.0 class!

~Teachers and past grade predictions aren’t always accurate. Odd how I get B’s in honors 11th grade English and am told by the teacher not to do AP Literature / I’m wasting time and might even fail it… But I got an A -.-

You said you want to major in something Biology/Chemistry related, so you should definitely take AP Chemistry, regardless of its difficulty (if you can’t handle AP Chem, how are you going to handle further Chemistry classes?). Chemistry is without a doubt one of the more difficult APs, so one might argue that it would be a better idea to wait until junior or senior year (when you’ll have more experience with difficult classes); however, I think it would be best to take it next year since you’ll be coming fresh out of Honors Chem, and by waiting a year or two you may forget the material.
