AP Classes for Junior Year?

I recently got my schedule for my junior year and I was happy with it until I saw other people’s schedule. I registered for 3 AP classes (us history, Lang, and physics 1) and regular precalculus with trig. Other people are taking 4 aps and 1 hn or 3 aps and 2 hn. I took AP world history last school year. I really want to go to Yale, Uchicago,or Duke. How many should I take in order to get into the colleges?

Original schedule:
AP Lang
AP US History
AP physics
Precalculus with trig HN
Psycology
Tech theater 2
French 4

*I’m thinking about taking AP human geography instead Psycology or only take 3 aps and precalc hn

Please help!

I took 5 my junior year and I wasn’t competitive for Chicago. The student profile for 2020 suggests that you need to take at least 6 APs, 7 if you can handle AP Lunch.

In reality, you need to have a workload as rigorous as your classmates since the school (or my school at least) ranks your workload on your counselor’s report but I think your workload qualifies. Just focus on doing well in your courses now and your other activities. Also find some matches and safeties to add to your list, for your sake.

It depends greatly on what your school offers. Universities look at the school profile and want to see you take advantage of what your school has to offer. And you can indeed get into U Chicago with 3 APs and one H in your Junior year. For examples, you could look at the 2020 Early Action Results thread It’s currently a few (8) pages down in this CC group.

Hi! I got into UChicago this year. I took 6AP classes my junior year, but many people I met at the admitted students weekend had only taken one or two. UChicago just wants to see the most rigorous courseload you can take and be successful at. I maximized the number of APs I could take in order to get in. I took AP Comparative Gvt (self taught), APUSH, AP Physics 1, AP French, AP Calc AB, and AP Lang. During my senior year, I only took 5. Many students at UChicago took only 4 AP classes over their 4 years. It depends on your school and what you do outside of school as well!
