AP Classes for my senior year

Hello all! I am about to enter senior year with the following classes, but am wondering whether I should also enroll in AP Stats. That would mean a total of 5 AP classes, is that too overwhelming?
-AP Chem
-AP Calc
-AP Physics
-AP English
-Anatomy and Physiology
-College US History
-Health Sciences
-US Gov. (required)

It might be obvious that I am another aspiring medical student! I am interested in both Oncology and Neurology but that's a long way off yet...:) I hope to be accepted into an ivy league college, or at least a prestigious college (currently looking at UCLA and Stanford). Would my list of AP Classes be sufficient to impress/be accepted or should I add/remove classes if they will just be eating up precious time?

Last year, I took prerequisites for the AP classes above, on top of an AP Psychology class and self-study for AP Biology. I didn't find either too difficult, just time-consuming and detail-oriented, nailed both with a 5.

I feel like I should be challenging myself with 5 APs but worry about time. I am willing to make compromises (social life etc.) as I've always been dedicated to my education and want to top it off Senior year. I just don't want to exceed what is possible to retain a brilliant GPA and my sanity! My GPA is currently a 4.0, all straight A's. My first SAT earned me a 2040 (I am trying again soon!)

My extra-curricular activities:
-Volunteer at Hospital (2 hrs/week)
-Volunteer at another Hospital (3-4 hrs/week)
-Volunteer and School Captain for Red Cross (Roughly 4-6 hours a month)
-President of school's Key Club (2 hrs/week)
-Member of National Honors Society
-Preparing for college/scholarship essays etc.
I am also occupied with duties such as cooking meals and organising bills etc. living in a single-parent household and being the eldest.

A little but crucial information about me, I moved to the U.S. from Australasia last year and began my Junior Year here. Thus, I haven't had a lot of time to volunteer (it's not common there!) which explains the emphasis on volunteering in my extra-curriculars. At present, I only have about 30-40 hours under my belt. Overseas, the focus was on other activities, dance, choir, speech and debate, but I have ended these since I moved due to inconvenience and time issues here. Should I be resuming one of these activities to be more well-rounded? Or devote more time to my volunteer commitments?

In short, how many AP classes should I take and which would be ideal for an aspiring medical student? Which are difficult and/or time consuming? Should I add an extra-curricular activity to my week or proceed with/increase my volunteering commitments? How many hours are ideal for a fine college?

Any advice on any or all of these queries will be returned with eternal gratitude! I will admit I am a little bit of a newbie to how things work but am getting the hang of it. Thank you so so much!

I think you are fine. AP Physics and AP Chem will be hard. AP Eng Lit is time consuming. Use sparknotes If you need to. For Calc search for PatrickJMT on Youtube If you need help.

RPreZZ thank you so much! Do you know how many total AP classes are typically preferable for a good medical college?

I don’t know what you mean by medical college…like a college with high med school acceptance rates? Med schools do not typically look at your high school transcript, just college. I mean, I think. As for how many AP classes you are taking, only you know what you can handle! If you think you can do it, then you should go for it. What would not look good is to take all those classes and not do as well. They would rather have you do really well in three AP classes than just do okay in five. What they would like the most is for you to do really well in five AP classes! Good luck though!

Well your other AP classes there are pretty hardcore, in that they’re generally recognized as some of the more difficult APs. Luckily, Stats usually isn’t.
It’ll be a lot of work, but from what you said I think you’ll be fine.

Currently I’m taking those AP classes that you’re taking. Calc, Physics, and Chem are a lot of math. Adding Stats, I would feel, wouldn’t be beneficial.

I strongly suggest that if you are going into the sciences, these APs are a must:
AP Calc BC
AP Physics C
AP Statistics (very useful class for biology majors, math majors, CS majors.)
AP Chem
AP Bio

The english… self study that your self. That’s for humanities majors.

US History is so boring :(
