AP Comp Sci. question

Okay, so next year I want to take AP Computer Science A.

But the problem is that the prerequisite is Computer Programming II. Which I haven't taken. What will happen when I try to take the class?

My school has a year of CS I, then AP A, then AP AB, with the option to just do one semester of CS I. We're on traditional/non-block. I skipped CS I. Instead, I just studied on my own. It was a painful learning curve for a couple weeks, but I'm now one of the top ~5 in the class of 30. It's very doable and relatively painless.

without studying Comp Programming I and II by myself, will I die in Comp Sci. A?

Try talking to the teacher or your counselor.

I would think it's okay to skip it without too much of a problem, but just make sure CPII isn't teaching something you truely are expected to already know when you get to APCS.

We take IB CS 1, which is basically AP CS A and next year we take AP CS A and basically do IB stuff rather than AP.

We have to take CSI and then CSII before we can take AP AB (that's the only one we have.) Self-study is okay, but try to use a textbook and do some projects. You have to be able to really just bust out a class and know where everything goes - you have to be comfortable actually programming.

At our school we only have Comp Sci I and AP Comp Sci

I can count people on both hands that have taken the latter without the "pre-requisite" of CS I. As long as you are good at understanding the concepts you should be fine. If not, be prepared for a lot of work.

This is just information as much as I know, which really has nothing to do with your school. Talk to your guidance counselor or the computer science dept. and ask them about it for the most accurate info.

Comp sci I is easy
