What is the length of the AP Comparative Government and Politics course at your school, and what is the general sentiment about it?
I’m taking it now; it’s a year-long class, and it’s regarded as very rigorous. Most of us are expected to get 5’s on the exam, with some 4’s.
I’m in comp gov, and we mix US and comparative throughout the year. So we’re about to finish Russia, and then we’re starting the executive branch and the role of the president.
It’s hard at my school. It’s a really interesting class, but the teacher is incredibly nit-picky and purposely makes the tests very difficult. I suppose it’s good because it’s preparing us for the AP exam, but you wouldn’t believe the amount of points she will take off simply during class discussion if you “speak too fast”. (I’m still bitter, sorry.)
At my school we take AP US Gov from Spetember until Christmas break and then start AP Comparative Gov when we get back. We then take both APs in May. We just finished a unit on the basics of international governments and are starting the UK on Tuesday!
I think it’s easy, though it could be a lot less work if the teacher wasn’t crazy serious and strict about everything. It’s only his second year teaching AP though, so I kind of understand why he takes everything seriously.
It’s considered harder than AP Econ, which is the other AP social studies class that’s typically available to seniors.
It’s a year long class; people say it’s harder than AP World, but not impossible. A lot of memorization of terms and such
