33% got 1's on the 2004 A test

our school dont allow us to take AB before taking A for a year, so **** tamirms

opitsweirdisntit-

I'm in a very similar position. I took A because I didn't feel like learning the extra stuff on the case study and so I could have a second AP CS class at school during senior year which I will also be teaching.

tamirms: I too took the AP AB exam, and must say it was easy. However, don't get too cocky. Just because others used a prep book does not mean they don't know what they are doing. Have you ever studied real computer science theory? Because if you have, you would know that the AP exam doesn't measure any real knowledge. Everything past what noobs would do is on paper. Have you learned lambda calculus? Have you took a proper algorithms analysis course? Have you taken courses such as numerical analysis, Complex Systems, graphics(hardcore, not just api crap), compiler theory, systems design, operating systems design, fractal/chaos theory, Graph Theory, etc? What textbooks if any have you used? What high level courses have you taken regarding computer science? How long have you been programming? What grade are you in? I believe not, so please don't make posts that put others down, because if you really know your stuff, you only know how much you not know.

If you think you are hot, I challenge you to write a function that computes the sine of some number x, given that 0<=x<=PI/4.
If you can write one faster than mine, with more accuracy, I will accept that you are really truly good. Don't use any lookup tables, don't use any library functions. Because remember, anyone who gets far in Computer Science knows that it is just a branch of mathematics.

So to sum it up, please do not call people noobs for taking the A exam. It only makes you look like a noob, because you stand bragging on a platform of insufficient fundamentals.

PS: Have you competed in USACO competitions? What is your id, so I can look you up on the score boards.

ego check tamirms... watch yourself not get a 100% now and maybe not even a 5

hehe you jinxed it
too confident = bad bad bad

I would have taken AB also, but didn't have the time to review the extra stuff... so I'm similar to Shahein and others that would have taken it, but didn't.
I'm going to self study the class next year. A Level test was extremely easy, so a couple more topics won't be too bad.

I have a feeling Sagar will be posting at the same time I am. muhahahahahaha lol
Sagar will be replying about how he is better than tamirms or something.

Since the Exam is over, we're in class playing games and doing nothing for the rest of the year.

SINE CHALLENGE FOR TAMIRMS SINCE HE IS SO GREAT!!!!

sagar_indurkhya, agreed

I didnt take the AB exam, and i've been coding professinally for years now. I own my own company and other stuff like that www.code0.org www.quickdelegation.com so the ap test in no way shows how good of a programmer or how good in computer science you are. Its just testing you on a bunch of fundamentals that is really trivial and stuff that you really dont have to know perfectly to be a good programmer. To be a programmer you have to know what does what, and be logical. Some expierence doesnt do bad either.

we should talk about some projects for the future, opitsweirdisntit...email me info@gimmeawebsite.com

I though for the summer, all us CS junkies here a CC could perhaps work on a siemons project? It would be fun, and I am not aiming for 1st, because I am a sophomore, and I just want the experience right now. It would be a lot of fun, and we would probably learn 10 times more than any AP class. What do you think? Catch me at Sagar.Indurkhya@gmail.com

That is a good idea.

Email me at lilaznmvp89@hotmail.com

i took the ab test, i think i bombed the FR.

you really don't need to know a lot about the marine biology simulation in order to take the AB exam.

Yes I admit I was being too cocky (especially in saying that I would get a 100%-- a bit too excessive), perhaps to the extent that I was being a sob. However, I do know that the AP Computer Science doesnt measure algorithimic creativity. In fact that was a major frustration I had with the exam, that it measured only one's familiarity with java and a cursory knowledge of object oriented programing/data structures. I would have rather preferred it to be a test on algorithim design similar to problems presented by USACO, even though I probably would be less succesfull on such a test. So yes Sagar I commend you for pointing out my obvious faults, and to answer your question I have not taken or conducted innovative research into more complex areas of CS that you mentioned, I truly do know that my education in CS so far is truly lacking (as would be expected from a junior in highschool). In short I offer my complete apologies to those I have offended.

Can't we talk about the test's questions yet? If so, why hasn't anybody done so?

All u self-proclaimed computer scientists, can you post the answers to Computer Science A.

Us amateurs who aren't guaranteed a 5 want to see if we did something decent on the exam.

POST YOUR ANSWERS

I am betting most of the CS people would be more comfortable discussing answers in private, rather than on an open forum like this, to lessen their paranoia if nothing else.

Well I was mainly talking about the multiple choice questions. But I don't think we can discuss them so nevermind...

Yeah, i also took the test (Comp A). So post up your answers to the fr questions so I can check! How did you guys do on the multiple choice?

I Meant The FREE RESPONSE QUESTIONS, We Are Allowed To Discuss Them Now

Alot of people who took either A or AB dont remember what the free response questions were...

The free response questions are located on the collegeboard site.

someone please post answers!
