How many computer programming class(es) should I have taken before taking AP Com Sci A? What level of math should I have had (Alg. 2, Precalc, Calc)? I tried asking the actual AP site and they didn't answer my question at all.

On a separate note how hard is the AP Com Sci A Test and class? I know the class depends on the teacher, but in general how hard is the class?

I don't know about prerequisites, but the AP Comp Sci tests are supposedly some of the hardest AP exams. The class I imagine would be difficult, unless that sort of thing comes easy to you.

Generally one year, but sometimes none at all...

The only Computer Science class I had was Computer Programming Basic I which used QBasic as the language and was only a semester course. I'm taking AP Computer Science A on FLVS(Florida virtual school) and honestly, I hate the course. I think that's just because I lack a concrete classroom and consistent teacher, but I also find that it's not TOO difficult. So if you think you can handle it, go for it. I got an A.

I thought the class was pretty easy, and I just had it for one semester. I did very little work outside the classroom, all the topics are pretty straightforward, you just have to apply them. Once you get Java down, it pretty much builds on itself. I had zero experience with programming before it.

Obviously, difficulty of the course in itself will depend on your individual teacher.
