So I’m going into my junior year and I have an interest in history and figure I’ll major in something history related in college, and for my upcoming year I’m taking AP US Government and AP Macro, the only other AP history courses my school offers are AP Human Geo(Which I plan on taking), APUSH(Which I missed my chance to take), and AP World History, I’ve been considering taking World History senior year but I’ve also been looking into AP Environmental and AP Bio for a better variety of AP classes, would you recommend I stick to AP history courses since its what I plan to major in or would colleges like to see some variety? For reference I’m also taking AP Language alongside the other 2 AP courses my junior year
Well, it depends.
Some colleges deny AP Credit to people who have gotten 5s on AP exams, because it is required for their major.
For instance, a 5 on the Calc BC test, will not go to math education in Colorado due to colleges wanting you to retake it, or to take it with Honors. If I where to change my major to liberal arts, those credits would go towards the necessary amount of math credits needed to graduate.
What I advise, is contacting the schools you want to go to, and see what they say about your major and see if the AP credits will count towards it. With a history related degree, I would hope for your sake, that it counts toward that major.
or just take the classes because you like them.
I would say to take courses that will prepare you generally for any major (math, english, science, social sciences, foreign language) but if you have extra time take history/economics courses.
Thank you both!
Is AP Chemistry or AP Physics in your plan of study?
I’d say take the history courses since you’re very passionate about it anyways. If they align with your major, then go for it.
