Picking Courses**

Hi everyone I’m currently a Freshmen and in about a month we will start singing up for classes and so I was wondering if you guys can help me. Next Year I have the Option to take AP World History, AP Chemistry and AP Spanish Language or Lit. Can you please tell me what was the hardest thing you had difficulty with from these subjects and any advise? I haven’t decided whether I want to do AP Chemistry because it can be GPA Suicide mostly because I haven’t taken a chemistry course before. Also my Grade for Honors Bio last semester was a B and so I’m not sure. Another thing I would like to know would be your you grade from the science course you took before AP Chemistry and whether or not you recommend me to take AP Chem.

AP World History. most sophomores take it and AP Chem wouldn’t be a good ride without a previous chem course. i would save AP Spanish for junior/senior. AP Lit - idk

A lot of this depends on previous experience in these subjects. I don’t recommend taking AP Chemistry without taking a previous chemistry course (and having a good grasp of chemistry). I’m taking Honors Chemistry and going into AP Chemistry next hear, and I’m holding a B/B+. I would wait until having at least 3 high school level courses of Spanish before taking AP Spanish Language/Literature, but it depends on how long you have been studying Spanish and when your school recommends to take an AP foreign language course. I would recommend taking AP World History, since I’ve heard that is commonly taken by sophomores/freshmen.

Since Some of the students haven’t taken a previous course of chemistry there is a summer preparation course that is weeks it covers all the fundamentals , If I take will it help much? I’m previously taken Spanish 2 for Native Speakers and its pretty easy , all I’m worried is If my teacher recommends me to AP Spanish Lit because I’ve never taken an AP course.

@HSTeen‌ Well, are you a native speaker of Spanish? Even if you aren’t, as long as you feel you have a good grasp of the language, I think you should be fine. Remember, just because you are recommended for a course, it doesn’t mean you have to take the course.
You may want to ask people who have taken the AP Spanish Literature course to see 1. how hard it is, and 2. what you should know before taking AP Spanish Literature.
Also, about the chemistry course, make sure you learn fundamentals that you will need to know for AP Chemistry at your school. Try to contact the AP Chemistry teacher and ask what you should know before taking the course.

Okay Thank you for advice, I will be careful on my decision for AP Chemistry.

The difficulty of the classes you listed really depends on your school. Like @Faultystart‌ said, you should ask people at your school (who have already taken the classes you are considering) how rigorous the classes were and how well their teacher prepared them for the AP test. If they did well in the class and on the test you should take that as a good sign.

Take either chem or chem honors before ap chem, or like you said it will be gpa suicide. Or since you already took Bio Honors could you take AP bio?
AP world for sophomores is perfect, most who take it do it sophomore year.

AP world is good for sophomores, you should definitely take that! AP Spanish depends on how much Spanish you have already taken, but usually people save that one for senior year maybe junior year if you are ahead. And if you want to take AP Chem it is basically a must to have taken chemistry or honors chem before hand. AP Chem is hard but manageable but that’s with a previous year of chemistry

A lot of people consider world to be a breeze, I guess that’s biased though since I hear that from people who have taken the class, including myself and typically you would take a class if you’re good in a particular subject. AP Spanish seems young for a sophomore unless your a native speaker and as does AP Chem.

You must take Chemistry (preferably honors) before AP Chem. AP Chem is like Chem level 2.
Take AP Spanish language first, and take AP Spanish Literature junior year OR see if there is a community college or 4 year college that offers literature and culture classes, since you could accelerate a bit in that subject.
Ask around if AP World History is difficult at your school: at some schools it’s a senior class and one of the hardest APs, at others it’s a sophomore class…
What other classes would you be taking?

@MYO1634 I would also be taking

  • Algebra II/Trig -English Honors 2 -Model United Nations
  • Business Academy
  • Physical Education
  • Algebra II/Trig -English Honors 2 -Model United Nations

would be a perfect schedule

Alright Thank you for the feedback (:
