Hi i’m a freshman and this is my course load for sophomore year not to sure if its too much but we’ll see.
Multivariable Calculus
AP Physics C Mech
Ela 2H
Spanish 3H
AP Chem
ispe
Science Research
Thinking between taking AP stats this year or AP CS A sophomore year.
My class loadout is in reality around 6 classes since ispe and science research are basically self study classes.
I might not be the best person to give advice on this bc I’m a sophomore and my school only offered one AP class for sophomores, but I wish I could’ve taken more. It might be a little much to do AP physics at the same time of AP chem, but as long as these are all classes you are passionate about i think you should be fine. If you are a good student and have good study habits, this seems manageable if you are passionate about it.
Hey kid!
I think @RichInPitt’s point was that it shouldn’t. You don’t know how much they studied, what classes they took before hand, if they had any extracurriculars that split their time, how hard the class was with their specific teachers, or even how good they were at time management and/or studying. If your circumstances aren’t exactly the same, someone else’s experiences shouldn’t mean much to you. Even then, I suggest taking everything with a grain of salt.
As for my experience:
I took AP stat, got a B+ and a 4 on the exam. One day, we spent the whole class period flipping coins and calculating the probability that it’ll land on heads. Another day, we had to estimate how many M&Ms of each color were in those fun size bags (we got to take home the bags we didn’t use) My teacher was amazing and I’m planning to minor in statistics because of that class but I doubt you’ll have her so this story doesn’t help much. Physics C: Mechanics is also fun, it’s basically Physics 1 but with calculus instead of Algebra. AP Chem was not for me, but you might like it! All of my classes were hands-on but I’m not sure if yours will be or even if that is your learning preference.
I also suggest you talk to someone who knows you and your academic history, maybe a current teacher in the respective subjects. I know at my school, our current math teacher would have to sign off on our proposal to take an AP math the next year, science w/ science, etc. It makes more sense that way. After that, maybe talk to current students to see what the course is like. You’ll be fine IF you’re prepared for what you’re getting into.
I think it sounds like too much. I wouldn’t want my kid to be doing all that at once, but depends on your interests and ability to sacrifice other interests.
I doubt I’ll sacrifice anything to be honest because I love most of the subjects I’m doing other than English language arts. So most of my work will be done by 5pm or 6pm.
