for whatever reason, the people in my class happen to be the "smartest" class. so although the normal courseload in my school is about 6 APs senior year (ranging from 4-7, I guess), a large part of my class has suddenly decided to take about eight APs instead-- some up to 10 during senior year (some are semester classes). I don't know if I should join in on this insanity. I have always been one of the top few students and I dont want my class rank to fall just because of this (AP classes are weighted here). Will I be seen as "lazy" in comparison to my classmates because I take 7 APs senior year instead of 9 or 10? My school offers like thirtysomething aps.

go ahead, unless you have something you need to dedicate your time to.

wait, so you're saying go ahead and take the 10 APs?

how do u take 10 APs anyways? take whatever number you think you can handle, lol. but if you have something else to dedicate your time to and you don't have time to do 10 APs, then..don't.
if i were u i'd take 'em :)

10 Ap's? I'd recommend about 4-5.

You should'nt take 8 or 9 AP's. If you care about getting into college, it shouln't matter because 1) It's the first year according to you that kids have decided to do this, so its not the norm in any colleges viewpoint, 2) It's more important to have strong grades in 6 ap's than b's and maybe even c's in 10, and 3) I expect your class rank is fixed until the end of the year, as well as your gpa? so you shouldn't worry about colleges seeing your rank fall.

my school updates class rank every semester i think

and i am fairly sure that if i took 10 APs i wouldn't get Bs or Cs.... it's just the STRESS of it that i am afraid of, not what my final grades will be haha

i say take what you can handle. b/c if u play a sport or w/e then u won't be able to devote time to w/e u want to do. remember, it's sr year.

To be totally honest, if you can take 10 ap's in your school and not get 1 b, the classes are probably not very rigorous.

nope i have taken eight already and got 5s on all of them except euro where i got a 4 for whatever reason.... i think it's just b/c people at my school are used to it, not really because it's easy or harder or whatever

what can you do? What is your limit? examine your grades this year and compare. 10 APs is a LOT of work. I'm having trouble with 4 APs, man. Unless your school is ridiculously easy or something, I'd suggest sticking to what you can do good at.

take the meaningful AP courses that are based on the core subjects (math, science, english, history) i.e. Physics B/C, Calculus, Language Comp/Lit, etc. stay a way from the fluffy ones like Stats, Psyc, Comp Sci, etc. that most schools don't even bother to offer.

we technially have nine periods in the day but if you take semester classes (in our school U.S. is two years but macroeconomics and micro and us government are semester for example) and no lunch you can get by.

Usually scores aren't based so much on teacher quality, but more on the student him/herself. At least in my school, kids take the initiative to learn whatever teachers don't get around to teaching, and most score 5's on every ap. Again, more a reflection on the student than the teacher. All i can say is that if you can take 10 ap's at a time without having problems in school or an impossible workload, then the classes must not be that intense

oh okay it doesn't really matter how difficult the courses are, it's just... SHOULD I TAKE THEM OR NOT, because course selection day is... this week.

Take as many as you can possibly handle getting A's in. 6 AP's in senior year seems adequate enough to me though.

but in comparison to my classmates, will it look bad.. and what about the class ranking thing?

lol, like everyone in this thread has said, if you can handle getting good grades in them as in b+/a without shooting yourself in the foot, then take them. if you're taking them solely for colleges to see that you're a hard worker and out of no intellectual curiosity, then don't. take what you want to take and whats necessary rather than trying to impress colleges. most applicants to harvard probably have an average of 10 ap's ever. well maybe not but you get my point.

LOLOLOL. I love how you guys are saying "don't take 10 APs. go easy. take 5!" That just cracks me up. I'm takin two this year, but I'm actually learning in them, so I think you should just take as many as you think you can actually learn the material in.

why ruin your life over something that in the long run means absolutely nothing? Instead, write an essay to the schools you're applying to about how you were pursuing your passions instead of loading yourself down with ridiculous AP classes just to pad your transcript. And then actually go do something productive and fun with your life instead of spend all your time studying some meaningless subject like your less-intelligent classmates will be doing.

p.s.- just wondering, what AP classes were you planning on taking anyway?
