A couple of threads have referenced AP credits, CORE requirements, etc.
I would highly recommend that BEFORE you go to campus for orientation, you spend a lot of time on UMD's websites, looking at the CORE requirements, understanding the MATH PLACEMENT, and knowing what you are coming in with, in regards to AP Credit.

UMD is very generous with awarding AP credit. When you go to orientation and register for fall semester, it's very possible that you won't have your AP grades yet from the May AP exams. Last year, D "estimated" what she'd probably get on the exams, based on previous ones. However, she didn't take any courses first semester that depended on having received AP credit from the May exams.

She had a ton of AP courses, and came in with 58 credits hours already...when she registered for Spring, 2008, she was already "junior" status in terms of registration priority. Quite nice.

Here are the AP credits (there's a similar chart online for IB)...

Take advantage of everything that's out there on umd.edu and testudo....there's a wealth of information there. Enjoy!
