AP Credit Clarifications

So I got a bunch of AP credit during my years in high school, looking at the UW Madison AP credit chart, I will get credit for the following if I transfer there:

  • MTH 221, 222
  • CSC 302
  • Composition elective, 3 credits
  • Literature elective, 3 credits
  • General elective, 3 credits
  • Physics elective, 3 credits

My question is how exactly can I use these credits. Can I for example use the literature elective to fulfill my Comm Part B requirement or my Breadth–Humanities/Literature/Arts requirement? Can I use my composition elective again even though it gets me out of Comm Part A? In general, can I use these credits to fulfill more than one category of gen eds?

No, you can’t fulfill Comm B with the 3 literature elective credits

The AP credit chart told you what the credits fulfill.

Those 12 elective credits go toward the 120 total credits needed to graduate.

Thanks!

As I recall, no one can “test” out of Comm B, you have to take a course at UW to fulfill it.

Other than that, AP credits count towards the credit hours required to graduate and can fulfill breadth requirements – Humanities, Social Science and Natural Science. So, your 3 Physics credits would count towards graduation credits required and towards the Natural Science breadth requirement.
