AP credit for computer science courses

My son took two AP Computer Science classes and tests with scores of 5 on both of them.
According to the Viterbi Engineering catalogue, it says that you can use AP tests to place in a higher level and talk to your advisor. Does anyone know if Viterbi places you in a higher level computer science class with AP Computer Science tests, score of 5? If yes, which computer science classes are you exempt and which level do you place into? Thank you.

I thought your son was already attending USC? Anyways, I was in a similar situation as your son. The thing is, AP CS courses are taught in Java (last time I checked). At USC, the first two CS courses, CS101 and CS102, are purely C++, which is in my mind, tougher than Java. The first course in Java, CS105, essentially covers in the first 2-3 weeks everything your son would have learned in AP CS A/B. The rest of the semester is spent working with Graphical User Interfaces, which I don't think is being taught in high school.

So, to answer your question, your son most likely won't be able to be exempt from any CS courses, unless his school for some reason deviated from College Board's curriculum and taught C++ instead of Java, which wouldn't make sense because the AP test is written in Java.
