AP Credit Questions

Hi! So I'll be attending UChicago next fall :)
And I've been looking at some of the AP stuff to see which APs will count for me, and which ones I can cancel for this year. I've gotten a bit confused on which APs will count, which placement tests I'll have to take, etc.

Just a bit of my AP history...
my scores: Art History (5), Chemistry (5), English Language (5), US History (5), World History (4).

This year, I am signed up for Calculus BC, German, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Comparative Government, US Government, and English Literature.

I know that Chemistry will place me out of CHEM 11100-11200-11300. A good score on Calc BC will either give me MATH 15100 or MATH 15100-15200. And a 3,4, or 5 or German fulfills the language competency requirement.

I might not be looking at this correctly, but... I think I've already maxed out my 6 elective credits? With Art History, English Language, US History, and World History?

Can I cancel the two economics exams, the two government exams, and english lit? I'm looking at majoring in Political Science, Economics, or International Studies. And if I want economics credit, I must take the placement exam, yes? That's the only way? Are there any other placement exams that are mandatory?

Thanks for help in advance!

Hi! I’m a first year at UChicago. Yep, you’ve already maxed out on all six possible elective credits, so there is no need to take the economics, government, or English Lit exams for which you’re currently signed up. If you’d like to place into ECON 20000, there’s a placement exam the Monday night of first week during fall quarter. As you said, the Calc BC and German exams are definitely useful.

As for other placement tests, you’re required to take them in math, biology, chemistry, and any foreign languages for which you don’t have AP credit but that you’d like to take at UChicago. They’re online, and you’ll receive more info about about them later in the summer. Don’t worry.

A little info, though…

Math is only useful for potentially overriding whatever placement you get as a result of the Calc BC exam. Say you get a 4, placing you into 152. The math exam, as far as I’m aware, could place you into 153. There is also a math exam during OWeek which can allow you to place into Honors math courses.

The chem online placement exam is essentially for placement into the honors chem track, and the bio online placement exam is just for gauging the Bio knowledge of the incoming class.

Hope that helps! Msg me if you have any more questions.

Does the placement exam only cover microeconomics? Must I have AP Microeconomics credit beforehand to take the placement exam?
