According to UChicago's website, credit is only offered for Macro&Micro and USGovernment&Comparative Politics. I'm only in a position to take Macro and US Government - should I just forget about it?

Same story for Lang and Comp; can I just assume UChicago will ignore it, since it's not mentioned on their website?

Admittedly, I don’t know the current policy. As of last year, both AP US Government and AP Language and Composition were eligible for elective credit. If this is still true, taking these course might allow you to graduate early, should you choose to do so down the road.

I highly reccommend taking macroeconomics, its something good to know, especially if your an econ major. And if you already took a class in it, why would you not take the AP test? (btw it was really easy).

Besides, if your already accepted to UChicago you should be a good student and taking the APs to improve your schools average can’t hurt.

The only time i would choose not to take more AP tests is if the 80$ is a financial burden on you. (fortunately my HS covered all mine)

I might be biased though as macro and USGov were my favorite courses in High School.

Eh, I’m in a similar situation. I have seven AP tests and 3 IB tests, and I have almost no motivation to study for them (hence my predictions of having terrible scores…). My school is covering all of mine, though, so I’m just going to take them and see what happens. I have two tests in a language, but I already have my language competency requirement met via an AP test last year, so I have almost no motivation. It can’t hurt to try, though. And I don’t want to pay the cancellation fees. I’m really tempted to skip IB French HL… it’s the day after graduation. soooo tempted.

I would take Lang and Comp, though. I went in not even knowing the format of the exam and got a 5… it’s pretty easy. You can write about whatever you want, and it’s actually kind of fun.

Just go to the tests, though. You’ve already dropped the cash, and what does it hurt? You can always mess with the graders and have fun with it.

My AP Lit teacher put it to me this way last year (as out of 7 APs, I can only get credit for one, Bio, and didn’t feel like I needed to take the rest): If you did the work you should take the test, because who knows? Something could come up and you might have to transfer to a school which, unlike UChicago, would take those credits, saving you a lot of time and money.

Yes, once you have your 6 elective credits, there is really no need to spend the time or money to get any more. Your only reason for taking such electives would be masochism… which is a very Chicago thing to do.

It adds to the reputation of your high school when they offer programs and the students do well. You owe it to your teachers to take the tests and do as well as you can, after all, you are the best and the brightest. The students that come after you will benefit from a good, solid, reputable program where students take classes, learn something, and actually prove it by competing with students from all over the world. I know it’s easy for me to say when I’m not in your shoes at the end of Sr year, but that’s the way it works.

That will have to do. The worst that will happen is that you won’t be eligible for credit and your ego might take a hit. Welcome to the club. After a few years you’ll learn to live with an ego that looks like a sieve and still prosper. :)

I called them to confirm (College Advising). If you have 4/5 on non-science APs (US History, Euro History, English Lit, for instance), then the MOST you can use are 6 credits, which means since each course gives 3 credits (as “other” classes), then one of them is going for naught. So, I am not taking the English Language AP, even though I had planned to, since it cannot get me anything. However, if you are not going as a science or premed major, your AP scores in science classes can get you Core credit.

I know that these college courses are expensive to retake, but at this point it’s hard to make myself care. I’ve got tons of other things to worry about at the moment. Besides, gov was easy. ;)
