Okay, this might not be the right thread, but I couldn’t find a more appropriate one. I apologize if this is the wrong place.
I am an international from a small gulf country (CBSE Curriculum, Indian immigrant). I am in my senior year and have been recently accepted to GeorgiaTech.
In my school, there are no AP courses, credits or anything.
I was thinking, should I apply externally for these exams and write them in May? I want to do this solely for college credit. I have heard that getting 5s in APs will help reduce workload in 1st semester by waiving few classes.
I would need to register for the exams soon and hence require advice.
I plan to write 4 APs max: Phy, Chem, Math, Comp Sc
To summarize, will giving these APs help me in any way in any college? (not only GeorgiaTech)
For college credit? Potentially, depending on the college. Check out the AP policies for your prospective colleges. For college admissions? Nope. AP scores carry little to no weight in the admissions process.
The College Board website will show you which colleges award credit. It is a good idea if you want to finish college in less than four years. If you want “easy” it’s a very bad idea because by testing out if lower level courses you start with higher level courses that are possibly more difficult. I do not agree with Skieurope that AP test scores help in college admission. These tests help colleges understand if you are a strong student in comparison to all other students applying, not just the ones at your high school. This is particularly helpful if you come from a foreign high school which may be more difficult to compare
Georgia Tech’s AP credit list is at http://www.catalog.gatech.edu/students/ugrad/geninfo/advplacement.php .
The College Board web site is known to have some incorrect information about the acceptance of AP credit. Use each school’s web site instead.

Thanks!
That was some really helpful information.
@skieurope
Thanks!
I have checked the colleges’ website.
@ucbalumnus
Thanks! One question though, the website states:
Students entering Georgia Tech may receive college credit based upon their scores on the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Exams taken <>, SAT II Subject Tests, International Baccalaureate Credit, and/or Georgia Tech Departmental Exams.
Since my school does not provide AP classes, am I ineligible?
You should ask Georgia Tech directly.
Note that, under the “Departmental Exams” link, you can see that they give exams to allow you advanced placement in math and foreign language.
Thanks!
Since departmental exams are in freshman year, so I guess I’d need not worry about it now.
Practically, it’d be easier for me to simply get a 5 in AP (I can already solve most of the questions )
